Anyone know where I can find the latest firmware for the Koqit receivers? I tried asking several sellers on eBay, but they won't answer. I know there is one newer that what I have on the boxes I purchased a couple years ago, but cant seem to find it anywhere. The main thing I like about the new firmware is that is removed the youporn and added youtube. I heard rumors that other firmware from a few other receivers will run on this box too, but don't know what firmware is compatible.

That is just a generic box, sold under many names and is sold for hacking.
It would be nice to put some non hacking firmware on it. Not sure what chip-set it is using though.
However, I would rather, not discuss support for a box sold exclusively for hacking here. :)

Not interested in hacking would prefer a replacement firmware but it’s beyond my knowledge. The receiver actually performs quite well for a $20 box

Yes, I know you are not. Sorry you misunderstood. The sellers of these are selling for hacking.

How difficult would it be to figure out the chipset?

You would have to start with opening it up and removing the heat sink and cleaning the thermal paste; then Google the numbers.
Make sure you have new thermal compound and all that to put it back together.

Let the dissecting begin! I removed the board, but can't seem to get the heatsink off. Appears to be bonded on with something... hmmm... maybe a little more brute force? I'm assuming the exposed chip is the memory?

Wow there must be hundreds of different receivers using this chip, and PC cards as well, lots of hits on google, The DZ100 receiver shows up a lot...

I have observed the market is full of hacker boxes. Unfortunately there is no money in writing firmware for these boxes. If they did write some new firmware it would be an excuse to make a new box and sell it as the latest and greatest. But you will never find good working legit firmware for these things.

Most developers use unique hardware ID for SOC firmware. This prevents firmware from being shared between different hardware builds and protects their investment. Lazy, inexperienced or clone builders often use a generic ID or unencrypted files.

You might find an unencrypted firmware that could be modified to load on other platforms, but that would be quite unlikely.

Firmware often can be loaded bypassing hardware handshake via ttl or LAN. Might try sniffing and prompting the com ports using Putty.

Otherwise, try loading files from STBs using the same chipset, tuner and I/O (v7, etc.). You may brick it, but hey, it is cheap to replace if unrecoverable...

help my box is brick
Wish i could help. I was never able to get any good replacement firmware for mine either. The receiver itself works pretty good, just too bad it's a popular hacking box, so nobody will provide firmware to help clean it of the hacking stuff. And it's beyond my knowledge, I never tried programming/writing software. There was a Sathawk receiver that I believe is the same box, but they won't provide firmware either. I did try firmware from a different Koqit model once and it worked, but I no longer have the files, or at least I couldn't find them.

Found the file, it's a generic file, this one worked for me, but no guarantee it will work for you. It removed the youporn and adds youtube, but youtube doesn't seem to work as it should. You will need to unzip and put on a USB thumb drive. If I remember correctly, you need to put the thumb drive in the USB port then power on the receiver.

No way to put Netflix on those receivers.
If you box is bricked you are not going to be able to recover via USB.

found this on youtube, haven't tried myself, so don't know if it will fix yours or not...

Haven't been on these forums in several years. Came looking for an inexpensive replacement receiver for my elderly dad who's old receiver died.
He only watches Galaxy 19 @ 97W. Checking Lyngsat it shows most channels are DVBS and not even DVB S2. I see this receiver on ebay for about $25 as the Koqit K1. I am hoping it will work. Don't have a budget for a more expensive receiver.
dsmith0429 has it been working for you on Galaxy 19?

I see Koqit posted a new video about 2 weeks ago about loading some sort of bin file for galaxy 19. Any feedback on this receiver is appreciated!
