Just curious...are there situations or places in the country where one qualifies for both NY and LA locals?

Sure but probably not all of them. It would be in markets where Directv doesnt have the locals and you can get DNS.

Years ago I qualified for NY and LA SD locals as DirecTV didn't offer the networks in our DMA. Then we got the HD versions. At one point the LA ones were removed.
Then for whatever reason they were restored. Forward to when DirecTV offers our HD locals, such as they are. But, they didn't remove the DNS. Now a dispute with our Fox affiliate's owners has now removed Fox. Still have the DNS.
