MLB Extra Innings and land line phone?

I am interested in signing up for Extra Innings but I keep seeing that you must have a land line phone. Is this really true? They say the reason is to keep track of location for blackouts but many people don't have landlines these days. Just want to verify before signing up and finding out that I can't use the service. Thanks

no you do not need a landline phone hooked up. I had MLB EI last year and I dont have a landline. Didn't even have the internet hooked up either but that is another way they can track it.

The blackout rule? Really thats their "reason?".....huh seemed to blackout the right games during the freeviews of each package (NBA, MLB, NHL, NFL) just fine
