The Federal Communications Commission released a list of "qualified" applicants that are slated to participate in its Jan. 14 auction for Multichannel Video Distribution and Data Service (MVDDS) licenses.

Some of the bigger names on the list include MDS, which has been pushing MVDDS issues at the FCC; Capitol Broadcasting; Satellite Receivers Ltd.; and South.com, minority-owned by EchoStar. Others are: Bruce E. Fox, C&W Enterprises, Cass Cable TV, DTV Norwich, Edward Shergalis, Hotwire Communications, MVD Number 53 Partners, Paul O'Dell, Story Communications, and WCS Communications.

As expected, Northpoint Technology is not on the list. Northpoint has been another company aggressively pushing MVDDS issues in Washington, D.C.

Satellite interests have been watching MVDDS closely. They are worried the spectrum-sharing wireless technology will interfere with satellite TV signals.
