Hi all,

The current NBC mux on 105w 3780 was supposed to go off air at the end of last month.
The new 5g location for the NBC mux on this satellite, (4140) is Biss encrypted and has been so since it went up.
Anyone here know as to whether this encryption remains, after 3780 goes silent ?
We’re already on borrowed time with the 4020 mux on 107w. I’d hate to lose both these feeds.

cyberham,

Ku is the route I’ll go if the new NBC mux on 105w remains encrypted. Unfortunately its not as reliable for me as its prone to rain fade and varying signal strength...anywhere from 9dB to 11 dB.
The NBC mux is a steady 13db for me on 105w.

BISS is minimum-effort encryption. I would imagine most stations have equipment compatible with it.

Have they encrypted for the Olympics before? I seem to remember some programmers have encrypted in the past during the Olympics because of the heavy hand of the IOC lawyers.

Good question. NBC programming is, of course, free to air in the US and unencrypted on ku-band satellite. The big difference with the C-band feed is that it covers most of Central America, so hopefully it is just for content protection during the Olympics.

Hopefully it is dropped once the old TP is finally pulled. I do like the new TP on 103w though. 12180V I think. It has downmixed 2.0 stereo audio. But I still like C over Ku too.
It was 12120V and is now BISS...

I do think the engineering on the audio of that TP needed work. It often clipped on my home theater and TV speakers. The old NBC mux has never done such.

Hi all,

Was wondering, but not complaining, why NBC hasn’t scrambled their Cozi TV feed.
I‘m hoping this is an indication that the BISS encryption will end when the Olympics do.

Hi all,

Well...the Olympics have been over for several weeks and the NBC feeds on 105w are still scrambled. I was hoping that they would be fta after the Olympics ended... guess thats now a pipe dream.
Oh well...

I use WNBC-4 on 99w, which is open. There's Fox, ThisTv (Weigel 99.13 on TitanTv schedule), and NBC in this mux:

4156 H
DVB-S2
QPSK
5790-4/5

Hi guys,

I get the NBC feeds on 103w ku at 11.4 db, but its weather dependent. I preferred the “Weather proof” NBC 105w feeds.
I also occasionally watch the VI feed on 99w, but that one is sometimes pixillated.
The 105w NBC mux was up a long time and I guess all good things eventually come to an end...especially with fta.
