The GT Media V9 already has a tool in the receiver to create .m3u playlists. So this is not required. The question is what can one do with the created .m3u file? We want to be able to play a 4:2:2 stream on the big screen TV. This may not be possible.

However...I do have an Android TIVO on my TV. Now if I could just cast to the Android TIVO, and not directly to the TV as I've been doing, who knows what might happen?

You can open the .m3u file in VLC on your Tivo Stream 4k . Of course it won't work (Amlogic S905y2) but hey maybe I 'm wrong

VLC on the TV was able to see the V9 playlist and open it but not play any channels. It also kept making the V9 lock up.

I might have to upgrade to buy a new Sony TV that have VLC built in for decoding 4:2:2 getting from V9 receiver.

But then again 4:2:2 is a somewhat rare on Ku band...

The user manual is not very thorough. I do not have a gtmedia receiver.
Don't you have to use a USB drive and then transfer the m3u8 to the device to play it?
I thought the link attached would let you somehow at least more directly grab playlists over LAN.
I ran across another one but the project looked stagnant. I did a gtmedia v9 export to LAN search.

On the other hand. If I leave my osmio4k tuned to a 4:2:2 channel long enough not in standby, it gets balky and sometimes needs a cold boot. So bad at times that you have to yank the cord.
My Sony X930E buffers and stutters bad playing 4:2:2 even through Kodi Enigma2 PVR client. Tried Ehternet and 5g wifi.
Using the Fire TV Cube with the same in Kodi plays just fine. Was wondering if there were any 4k broadcasts to try.
I don't use VLC enough on either but last I remember loading playlists are a real pain. And since Kodi works so well as opposed to one of the Dreambox players that costs to get the features unlocked. So there you have it.
BTW. Are there any 4k 4:2:2 broadcasts out there? I wanna try.

Well they are 1080, not 4K. Try the CBS muxes on 93 and 99, and the ABC muxes on 97 and 99. They are 4:2:2.

The reason why your regular streaming devices and likely most TVs can't playback most 4:2:2 HD feeds is the same reason your satellite receivers can't watch them. The processors don't support 4:2:2 chroma and don't have the power to decode using software. I understand this may have worked in the past with mpeg2 4:2:2 feeds and a few devices such as the latest FireTV Cube and NVIDIA shieldTV have enough power to process 4:2:2 720p feeds but they will fail on HEVC 4:2:2 1080. Hardware decoding of 10-bit 4:2:2 HEVC requires an Intel 11+ gen or Apple M1+ CPU although lower power processors may work with software decoding such as VLC. I'm using a Chromebox with a 10th gen Intel cpu and VLC works fine. AppleTV 4k may be worth trying, YMMV.

I was thinking back at the NASA 4k UHD channel. I had no problems streaming that with the Fire Cube. Nor through Kodi on my Sony.

Not that I am aware of.

There is chatter on Rick's that something called "Infuse" allows direct streaming of 4:2:2 from receiver to Apple TV+ 4K:

I took a quick peak at Infuse and I could not figure it out. VLC is much simpler, just point it to the HTTP link.

In order to stream from the V9, the M3U file needs to be loaded onto the Apple TV device somehow and played through VLC. But it sounds like it works. Probably easier using an Edision, just point VLC to the local IP of the receiver.

I just don't have an Apple TV to test any of this.

I use a TBS card and TSReader to push it to the AppleTV so no idea how it works with any of those receivers.

Try opening the m3u file in Notepad, it likely has a HTTP or UDP link, if so you should be able to punch that right into VLC and not mess around with a m3u file. Nothing I can test or say would work for sure. But if you can get the link to open in VLC on the PC it should work on the AppleTV too.
