New Apple Watch 4 for 2018 Rumors and Facts

Rumor updated heart rate monitor and with a supposedly bigger battery look for Apples native sleep app.

Currently, I have 4 watch faces with 4 Complications on each that I swipe back and forth. So the idea of 8 on one face is intriguing to me. I wonder if that will be wOS feature or it has to be hardware as well. Seems to me that would be operating system feature. Either way, I just bought the watch 3 last year so I'm not going to be upgrading for awhile.

There is another rumor for watch 5 (2019) or 6 that could add a glucose monitor and EKG in combination with the iphone X for display of data. Still waiting FDA approval. I heard Apple is adding the sensors for this in the 4 to enable test trials for approval which usually take up to 2 years before the FDA will approve it. The home glucose monitors out now all use blood lancets so I don't know what technology or process will be in the Apple system.

  • Apple Watch with slimmer bezels will support electrocardiography, or ECG, (read about the benefits here) and use ceramic backs on all models — aluminum without LTEcurrently uses composite glass
The ECG is the latest rumor out today from Ming-Chi Kuo

I don't see how the Apple watch can do all the functions of an ECG as a true ECG must use multiple sensors. It is likely this is nothing more than a much more frequent pulse measurement from the wrist that plots the pulses up to 200 beats per minute but not high enough bandwidth to plot the actual movement of the various contractions of the heart muscles as with a real 10 lead ECG.

I have an app now on my watch3 that can track the beats and plot the timing every 90 seconds which they claim is fast enough to detect AFIB. But that is one data point for every 90 beats, hardly high enough bandwidth to be seen as a Medical ECG. My watch 3 will record the data for 6 hours on the x axis. For fitness it is a nice app.

Yes, but as of right now the only remaining mystery on the iphone and the Apple watch is the pricing. Lots of debate still brewing.

Apple is beginning to update the website with latest. I did learn that the iOS12 will still work on my iphone6+ but the new wOS5 will not work on the first generation of the watch. My son-in-law is still using his original Awatch but the battery is about shot. He tells me he is only getting about 6 hours now. That's like my wife's watch last January. She now has the Awatch3 too.

The new wOS5 for A watch 3 ( what I have) is of little interest to me because the announcements are hinting mostly stuff for exercising and competition or student accounts at colleges. There is a new walkie talkie feature for the Awatch 3.

still rumor: So far the wOS5 for the new A watch 4 will have expanded complications and larger screen and more notifications. Also some sort of ECG sensor. At any rate, I will be ordering the new iphone Xs Max with 512GB and have decided to get that deal on upgrade every year. I will be also buying my SIL a new watch 4 in SS as his Christmas present. If I decide to upgrade my watch3 to the new 4 it will likely be later and depend on the new features. I really want to wait for more storage and a face time camera for my next A watch.

I don't recall that I've ever seen an Apple announcement greeted with such silence.

The stock value was down only a bit so based on those two metrics, I'm guessing the interest in the announced products is low or a lot of the faithful were disappointed.

Next time turn your speakers on! It wasn’t as enthusiastic as some of these have been but there was still a lot of excitement.

The ECG feature and fall detection/calling feature are two reasons I will look over the thing. For my wife and myself. I’d get one for my MiL, but she wouldn’t wear it.

The iPhones have nice improvements, esp changing the depth of a picture AFTER you took it, and band 71 support. I did not expect the OLEDs to support DV and HDR10. Nice.

I'm definitely upgrading to the Apple Watch 4. The extra 2mm of screen space and thinner design is very enticing to me. I can sell my AW3 for at least $250, and this isn'rt an expensive upgrade, fdor something on my wrist 17 hours a day.

Two things: A report came out saying Mobile Phone sales are slowing as market saturation is being reached. And, historically, Apple's stock price drops after Product Announcements. Apple dropped 1.2%, Alphabet dropped 1.6%, Motorola dropped 1.1%, Samsung dropped .5%, so I would say it's safe to say Apple's price drop was not directly influenced by today's announcement.

It has historically dropped a lot more than it did when the announcements were truly exciting. I bought Apple stock when they announced the iPhone 5 and as I recall, the stock value dropped by the mid teens that afternoon.

Which suggests that the announcements didn't really move the needle any more than the recent leaks and investors weren't all that taken with what they saw (either as an opportunity to sell or impetus to acquire more stock).

I think it is pretty clear that Apple has a pricing problem and I'm not sure the R hit the spot. There's something not particularly satisfying about buying old technology because it doesn't cost as much as the down payment on a new car.

I had my sound on and it reminded me a lot of a State of the Union address: Some polite clapping over incremental improvements and some loud clapping when some long-awaited small victory was announced.

I’ve always sold my Apple gadgets online.
Has anyone used the Apple GiveBack?
Do you ship your old product back once you receive the new one?
