New HD Service for what its worth!!

some points.

1. only the locals are in HD.

2. there are 10 (regular channels). OTA is free, so why should you pay for it.

3. you need an OTA antenna and live within the coverage area of the 3 cities listed.

it would cost less just to buy a samsung HDTV OTA recieveer and use your existing antenna and never pay a montly fee.

And here is the last year's discussion about it...

What is to stop someone from getting their signal for free? If you purchased a receiver off of e-bay and used an antenna someone already had, along with living in one of their service area's of course.

I believe their signal is encoded so you will need their receiver to decod it.

Yes it's probably a lot like DBS just in more terrestrial terms. There is probably activation of receivers, cards, etc.

It really sounds interesting, but it also seems like there would be some tremendous upstart costs. In the DBS world, you stick a bird or two in the air and hand out receivers and dishes and you have the entire country covered. For UHF broadcasting you would have to stick a transmitter in or near every major metropolitan area, at least withing 50-60 miles of your target customer base. Problems would still exist for people living in valleys for example.
