New Hopper and vertical size issue

At the risk of asking the wrong question, did he swap out the box and is everything good?

I don't fully understand the audio / remote problem but one thing that popped into my head was the remote could have been set to "Mimimal" mode or whatever it is called ? My new to me hopper was set that way and the previous owner also had a Samsung TV so I didn't think to reprogram they the hopper but as soon as I pressed TV to try and change video inputs I got flashing lights and no change to Input. Just a thought. As for the pix problem I just don't know other than a resolution problem or a TV problem.
