Newbie, help w/ alignment & LNB freq

I've been trying to tweek it but haven't been succesful. Getting very frustrated. Should I just buy an analog satellite finder? Are they reliable?

And how the hell are you supposed to be able to use a compass when using it anywhere near the dish get's it all out of wack!

A compass is used to get you in the ball park only, as you noted if you stand too close to the dish or anything metallic it will through the compass WAY off!

An analog signal meter will help but thats all, it will keep pulling you to the STRONGER DBS satellites.

The BEST signal meter out there is your receiver and and a small TV. Enter a LIVE TP. then slowly point the dish all the while watching for signal QUALITY only!

As also suggested above remove the motor and find/store a few satellites first.

Thats the way most of here started, walk before you run!

Unfortunately don't even have a motor on it. I'll guess I'll just go ahead and hook up my smaller tv and receiver out there and see what I can find. Thanks for all the help, I'm sure I'll be griping some more tonight if I still didn't get a lock.
