In honor of the playoffs starting tonight, here's a brief collection of Cup 'mishaps'

In 1924 the members of the Montreal Canadiens were on their way to a celebration party after their Stanley Cup win. The car carrying the cup got a flat tire and was pulled to the side of the road for repairs. The passengers took the cup and left it on the side of the road. They went to their party, but when it was time to drink champagne out of the cup, they realized it was missing. They went back to retrieve it, it was exactly where they had left it.

In 1961, the Montreal Canadiens were losing the final game of a Playoff series to the Chicago Blackhawks. A Canadiens fan in the stands was upset. He ran down to the front lobby and broke into the glass showcase where the Stanley Cup was on display. He grabbed the Cup, hoisted it over his shoulders and made it across the street where he was caught. While in court, he simply said, "I was bringing it back to where it belongs, in Montreal

When it was Mark Messier's turn to hoist the cup, he took it to his hometown of Alberta. Messier then took it to his favorite strip club, and let many fans drink out of it

Colorado 1996, Sylvain Lefebvre of the Colorado Avalanche had his daughter baptized in the cup.

Detroit 2008. When the Cup was with Kris Draper. His newborn daughter, well, took a dump in the Cup.

Montreal 1993 Apparently, Patrick Roy did not learn much from Mario Lemieux. Despite the Penguins captain unsuccessfully taking the Stanley Cup swimming follow the victory in 1991, Roy decided to do the same in 1993.

The 1905 Stanley Cup Champion Ottawa Senators had quite the celebration in their hometown. Things got so rowdy that one player decided to drop kick the trophy into the canal. Of course, he neglected the fact that the canal was frozen

In 1962, the Toronto Maple Leafs were on top of the hockey world.During the celebratory bonfire, the club mistakenly used the Stanley Cup as fire wood, dropping the hardware into the fire. The Leafs had to pay for the significant damage done to the Cup in the process.

Doug Weight filled the Cup “with gallons of ice cream, chocolate sauce, marshmallows, M&M's and chocolate chips decorating St. Louis's largest ice cream sundae. The kids dug into the treat and polished off most of it."

Ed Olczyk was said to have fed the 1994 Kentucky Derby winner, Go for Gin, out of the Cup at the Belmont. Olczyk claims that he simply brought the Cup to the Belmont, and no horse ate out of it.
