No Grandfathered Status In 2005- for me!

I dont get it...the price really is just going up 5 bucks correct? HAsnt Voom lowered the rental fee for their receivers? So arent we paying just 5 bucks more a mth? Still VOOM is very worth it. Am I wrong about this?

My bill for 12/16/04-1/15/05 is also $79.90. Since part of my billing period is in 2004 maybe the $10 increase will not take effect until a complete billing cycle is in 2005? No equipment charge as I own my stuff. No rain fade on my 10 foot dish.

My bill, as well, from 12/19-1/19 remains the same $79.90, and stb rental remains the same at $9.50.

But Voom did give me $48 credit for taxes previously collected, and did not charge me for Playboy (which I had cancelled on 12/18 in anticipoation of all the price increases for Vavavoom and Playboy). Actually, I was surprised that they got it all right.

Same here. Just got my statement today and saw no price change for January. Even prorated.

Thread renamed and moved to Customer Comments.

I have had voom since the start and dish for 10 years. I got sick of waiting for dvr and sick of my replay not recording HD. So I took the plunge for the 921. Anyone that thinks the Motosucka voom box is better then the rockin 921 probably does not have one. The OTA has analog and digital scan. Better OTA pic and guide (if you subscribe to locals on sat) the guide is smokin fast, way more features and bottom line way better HD picture. Only drawback is not enough HD. And did I forget to say, IT IS A HD dvr!
My belief from being in the industry for years and knowing Charlie is that he has held out lately on HD becuase of the low amount of customer HD tv saturation in US. I believe from sources that he is poised to buy Voom when he thinks it is to the FIRE sale stage. It is my understanding that he wants the bandwith on that gosh awful 60 degree bird. His 60 degree bird is about to fly the coop! Remember charlie knows the only thing that is holding DTV afloat is there over paying for NFL Sunday ticket. He is not a dumb player in the business. He was around Cband and satellite before the begining of time. He will buy Voom at the right time. Then he will dump the motorola garbage (hope we can keep it!) and will within 1 year rollout a smokin HD package that DTV will be chasin tail to match.
Come on team, Do any of you believe Voom will be around as we know and love in more then 6 months. I DONT THINK SO! the only reason Lockheed is still in the game is they know the need for HD and know the will soon be working with MR.DISH
My rant!

Only drawback is not enough HD.

Sounds like a pretty big drawback to me...

Even if Dish buys Voom how does that hurt us Voomers? Why should we switch to Dish now when we could probably get a pretty sweet deal when we are switched to Dish in the event of an acquisition?

OTA HD with the 921

How does the 921 guide work? Will it work for every channel your antenna picks up or does it have problems if you pick up channels from more than one DMA? Is the whole thing integrated like the VOOM box (so you can search "sports" and see both OTA and satellite listings? Also, what is the lowest price that you could get all available HD channels plus the locals on sat that you need in order to get the PG for the OTA HD? I have asked VOOM for my money back but they don't seem to be getting back to me.
Thanks,
Joseph

First let me say, I had no problem with Vooms OTA guide It suited my needs fine. That said, The 921 OTA guide rocks. first off you can scan for digital OTA channels and also you can choose to do an analog OTA channel scan as well. (something the voom box wont do) So two things happen. You will get duplicates on your guide. example is here in seattle my guide actually shows 3 channel "5"s (KING 5) One is the digital HD channel, the other are analog SD channels. One in stretch mode, one in full normal screen mode. ONLY THE DIGITAL channels have programs listed in guide. The analogs just show the channel number.example below
channel 5 11:35 pm ----------- (analog)
channel 5 King 5 11:35 pm"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (digital)

The cool thing vs Voom box is that with voom you only get digital locked channels. With analog choice you can get those channels that may not come in just perfect enought for digital or HD. YOU DONT LOOSE ANY CHANNELS your OTA will deliver!

As an added bonus you also get the same channels all digital by dishnets in the 9000's.
REMEMBER you must subscribe to dishlocals in the 9000's to get guide for locals 2-69 range. Some people dont like to pay the 5 bucks . I dont mind!

You can get local HD channels for FREE. I dont subscribe to Dish HD package
(9.95) month. Becuase I have Voom and I think Voom has tons more HD channels for the 39.95 (grandfathered) I pay a month. Be aware dish only offers a fraction of HD that Voom offers but that will change!
But the picture is way better comparing Dish 921 vs Voom in my opionion on my HD set. I have not tried to do a search yet and see if it comes up with locals I will do that and report back.
Oh and the box has great features.
Only thing I dont like is 921 does not have native mode.
Kinda sucks.
I would definatly buy a 921 from Costco before they are gone!
Smoking Good!

I was called by the VOOM business office to update the expiration date on my credit card. I asked her about the rate increase, and she checked my bill for next month and said that VaVaVoom was going up to $89.90 and the STB rental would still be $9.50.
