This is why I got out IT field and why I wont help anyone with anything tech. It also why I told my dad dont get mom and ipad/iphone, because YOU will be explains thing to her over over again, cause I wont do it.

20 years later he is still explain same thing to her, she barely understand how to work tv, forget about concept remote need to be programed if tv changes or dish remote need to be replaced.

You had more patience they i did, I would just programed the remote explained nothing and left, and moved on The is no point explain thing to some people
We run into issues like this all the time. We sell internet and it is a constant problem with kids insisting that their older parents buy all the newest tech...."the internet guy will explain it all to you" 🤬 I am always polite but FIRM....otherwise they'll call you literally every day wanting you to come out and fix things for them......and tell them that if they want all of this tech, THEY are going to have to take the time to watch Youtube videos on how to use it because it is NOT my job.

There is an industry of sorts for assisting the techless (such as simplified remotes), if one has the patience both to research it as well as to implement it for those so challenged.

TV is one thing, computer use is entirely another in terms of involvement, but I suppose there's some kind of simplified interface for that as well

And it opens up a whole other can of worms. Older people are very prone to click on every email and will call that phone number in a heartbeat and end up scammed. One of my customers is a manager of a local bank branch. She said she is constantly dealing with older customers who get scammed....and a lot of those customers get angry at the BANK for allowing the funds to go out. She said it can take a couple of hours to take care of just one customer. The scammers tell the victim to not trust the people at the bank.

One of my new neighbors was complaining about how hard it is to find anything on the FireTV her grandson bought for her. After I showed her how to use the Alexa voice command feature, she's doing a lot better, and is happy with the savings over her former Spectrum cable TV bill. She does use her computer, but mostly just for email.

I love when I ask older customers if they have internet and they typically respond with "We don't even HAVE a computer" and I think, who does?? Probably fewer people than ever as everything is moving to app-based on phones and tablets, which run many different devices in the house, on top of paying bills, etc.

I see older folks having far more problems trying to interact with phones and tablets than computers. Smaller screen, irregular UIs, one shaking finger trying to tap a thing being held in the other shaking hand... I'll say tap, but due to the shakes, the device registers a swipe. I'll suggest trying to hold still... OK but not THAT still for that long because that time it registered a tab-and-hold...
