lets have a "what if" question.....

If you could change/add one feature on the D* receiver what would it be?
This has nothing to do with programming......just the receiver

so...whaddya got?

me...very simple

allow the unit when you add the AM21 to have one extra tuner for OTA(I'd be greedy if I asked for 2....one is fine) for OTA so you could record 3 items at once
-one from OTA
-two from satellite

while the AM21 is nice, having it add a tuner for OTA would make it better :)

(other options would be OTA tuner built in or a scan option....but since my AM21 gets the channels in my market its not as urgent)

I'd go with the scan feature for the ota tuners. Maybe a larger hd for the dvrs.

Add WiFi so you do not have to run an Ethernet cable for networking. This will free up an Ethernet port on the router.

Two more tuners, HD gui (already in the works) and make some features more customizable

Just to highlight the *ADD* in your post.. :) wouldn't give up having ethernet for the life of it.. wireless can not push 80meg with stability and not have contention with other wireless devices ... :)

Gee it sounds like you all want a 722 :)

heh...no thanks

I want MLB Net, more of my locals in HD, RSN 24/7 in HD, The Mtn Network, ESPNU HD, flat rate equipment prices for adding receivers and not have to worry about me losing my channels due to a spat or the company "looking out for us" then jacking rates. I can get those with D* :)
So I'll take my AM21 and its flaw over not having those anyday :)

Uuuuh, NO! Last I checked, the 722 didn't do anything remotely similar to MRV in HD which is first necessary before one can accommodate my number one wish feature:

Complete system load sharing such that all turners are shared between DVRs/receivers and all hard drives are shared between all DVRs/receivers such that from an operator's standpoint, it is just one very capable DVR. That would be damned cool. Need a couple more tuners? Just add another box and the system figures it all out! I know that's a lot to ask for though and don't expect it.

Now for the second wish, this IS something I miss from my days with my 722 and was surprised I couldn't do this on the HR24 because it would be so simple for them to allow this... CUSTOM FOLDERS!!!

I can't leave out the third cause it's something I haven't mentioned before because I didn't notice it at first. In the guide, there's no apparent episode number system like I used to have on Dish. If you record an entire season before watching the first episode, it helps to point out when you've missed an episode due to some sort of recording conflict or system error. I see no way to do that with DirecTV without knowing the original air dates of each episode (which I don't of course).

Go back to actually putting OTA tuners back in the boxes, then we could eliminate an addl. piece of equipment that is really unnecessary.
Sadly D* doesn't offer the AM 21's to a sub when he moves from a recvr that had an OTA tuner in it, they just expect youto get it on your own.... they won't pay for it, seeing your the one being inconvenienced nor will they even send you one if you happen to be in an area that has locals available thru them.

Switch from the either internal or external hard drive to accessing both at the same time...

Or integrate them to work together ....
While they are at it, make it so you don't lose all your recordings when you move the HD to a different recvr. They currently reformat when they are plugged into a different recvr.
