Thanks to the sharp eye of SatelliteGuys WallyHTS (Dave Wallace) he caught this document recently while searching in Pacer.

It appears we now see the reason why Orby is no more... they are now in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

The court filings are below: (With the best one being 1.pdf which shows all the money they apparently owe)

Thanks Dave!

Looks to me like they never paid any of their bills... How could they owe up to $100 million already? They never had a chance at all with that sort of overhead.

It doesn't look like they paid the company they rented the transponder from or any of the programmers! :imshocked

Let's say they had an average 100k subs at $40/mo. Orby was around - 13 months?

That's $52 million in total revenue - and some of that was state sales and fees they were covering.

My letter arrived in an inkjet printed envelope. Yep, the return address ink had run with some spilled liquid...

Just a wild guess, but it is hard to believe that envelopes would be individually printed on an inkjet printer if there were 100,000 subs.

They ticked the "10,001-25,000" box for the "Estimated number of creditors" category. Since every subscriber with time left on their subscription is a potential creditor, that may indicate the primary cause of the failure...

They'll owe the inkjet cartridge filling company as a creditor, LOL. Those things are crap, I've never seen a good inkjet printer that lasted long. The cartridges dry up very quickly if not used in a short time period.
