Pac-12 Network

Hmm, my schedule says OSU Arizona isn't until the end of September :D

Seriously, though, I want the Pac-12 and I want it sometime before soooooon.

I'd even pay - grumblingly - for the sports pack if I had to.

Did I just say grumblingly???

Oh Oh - Maybe not looking too good according to a newspaper article this morning. Full article is at:Pac-12 television network turns the lights on Wednesday - Inside Bay Area

Excerpted from the story:
At this point, the Pac-12 Networks don't have carriage agreements with either of the major satellite operators, DirecTV or Dish Network. But negotiations are ongoing and commissioner Larry Scott is optimistic a deal will be struck with at least one of the satellite carriers.
Media industry sources believe DirecTV, with its reliance on sports programming, is far more likely than Dish to come to terms.

Yeah these networks need to grow up and start taking care of the fans.. Either way Dish needs to try to get the Pac 12 network before the OSU game kicks off.

Guys - you know how Charlie works - no way he is going to pay for the channel before the games start. If we don't have the channel(s) by September 01, then I'd start to worry. (Or August 30, if there are any Thursday night games.)

Action to request that DISH carry PAC 12 Networks...

With the PAC 12 Network scheduled to start broadcasting tomorrow 8/15, I just called DISH to get any status update.

As expected, the rep told me there was no update. I asked to have my name added to the list of people requesting PAC 12 Network carriage. I also asked if many people have been calling up and he said, "no".

He advised that I file a programming request. To do this -
Go to the DISH Website
Click on "Support"
Click on "Contact Us"
Scroll down to send an email. Choose programming and voice your concern.

Done. Now if it were only this easy to actually get it.

Yeah sent them a Email as well..

The more of us who do that the better. Here's an article that Washington-centric but contains an interesting paragraph. The excerpted paragraph is:
======
The network is hard at work to get other providers on board. To see if your provide has signed up, check the Channel Finder on the conference's website.
They're Hard at work? Seriously, I have satellite, Will I get it?
Chances are? Yes, you will, but the timeline may not be ideal.

Two weeks ago I filed a request to include Pac12 . I received a reply back thanking me for my suggestion and how Dish takes all of these requests under advisement.
I'm in Oregon so I have a real steak in the Pac12 especially since the DUCKS have been trouncing the competition! Not to mention relatives in Idaho, Colorado and
California, who will get coverage thru cable.

if i remember correctly Dish didn't turn on Big10 net. until the saturday morning of the first games. i think other outlets had it a few days before that.

Dish, like many other outlets, didn't get Big 10 Net until after the first weekend, when the channel had shown Appalachain St. Upset Michigan. If Pac 12 wants similar carriage they're probably gonna need a similar upset.

I have voiced my desire for the Pac-2 network for months; the only response I get is the standard "I will submit a program request form to our programming department requesting the PAC 12 Network for you.".

No mention that they are negotiating (which they are), no mention of anything. It's like AMC - they've gone silent. Even DTV and the Pac-12 Network have gone on record as working on negotiations - but Dish is just too quiet.

If you are on twitter and follow @dish, I have begun to retweet all their inane tweets back to them with the #IWantPac12networks hash tag. So every time they blast a tweet about whatever their crappy free preview is this month, how to win an iPad, or how to access programming on line, it gets re-tweeted with the hash tag. I encourage everyone to do the same. It may not make a difference in the end (don't seem to care about their customers), but if enough people retweet; someone will notice.

I think that maybe I might have to find a bar that has a Comcast feed if they don't get the Pac12 network by September 1st. Right now I am looking at only missing possible 2 U/W games due to not having the Pac12 network and unfortunately the first game with Arizona State is one of them. Definately not switching over to Comcast.

I kinda agree with you.

The only thing is that if you go to a bar to watch the game, you're sitting there for 3+ hours maybe more.

I've done that before I started paying $5/mo. for multi-sport and the Ducks games. The bar tab was close to $40 or more for drinks, food and tips per game.

Now, multi-sport is close to $10/mo. and they will not get the Ducks/ Cougs/ Sundevils, etc. That lowers my bar tab to $30 once I drop multi-sport. It also lowers DISH take by $10/mo. times however many other folks will do the same.

Mulligan's on the Blue in Wailea is where I used to watch Ducks Sports prior to my Multi-Sports sub. Here's another hoist of a Guinness and a round of fish & chips to all my PAC 12 brethren! :)

Aloha from Maui

NOTE - DISH - get your "chips" together and get PAC 12 networks :)

DirecTV seems to be the consensus choice for getting the networks. In all the articles and projections I find - everyone mentions DirecTV.

One of the recent articles I found explains what the first day of programming was like, but also contains this statement:

The Pac-12 Networks are yet unavailable to those with DirecTV and Dish Network, among others. There's a belief both within the conference and outside that DirecTV will get on board.

"They will get a deal done with DirecTV," predicts Maestas. "DirecTV has always used sports content as a point of differentiation.
"If I was a betting man, I'd put the over-under at 30 days from the launch of the network."

DirecTV would be a big one for the league, adding potentially another 20 million homes. The guess here is that over the long haul, those prospective new customers will find this audacious enterprise well worth it.

So - here's my question if DISH is not going to get PAC 12 networks...

I have 2 DISH dishes on my roof. If I switch to DirecTV, will I have to have more holes drilled in the roof to have a DirecTV dish installed? Or can they use one of the bases that's leftover from the removed DISH equipment?

As a side note - my first DISH installation had the smaller DISH and there were all sorts of channel loss messages. So the installer installed a larger dish and removed the small one. However, he just left the base from the small dish antenna up there (eyesore on a band new roof). When I got HD a few years later, the installer was able to utilize the "leftover" base that was never taken down.

I'd hate to have another installed dish up there with two bases left over from DISH Network equipment!
