I went to the PANSAT site to update my 6000 XHC and downloaded the file. I've never done this before and the instructions are not clear. I have a null modem cable and have in a folder on my PC the following:
PANSAT 5000HC & 600XHC Loader v3.33
Pansat_HXC=_070904_v...BIN file
Pansat_6000HXC+_070904_v1151

After I hook up the cable and plug in the receiver into my APC UPS in case Ameren craps out, what do I do to make things happen?

Will this update correct some of the EPG issues and satellite names?

Thanks

Most likely won't fix any EPG problems since most FTA broadcasts don't have EPG information broadcasted.

It might have updated satellite names.

If you still want to install the file, do the following.
The hard drive on the Pansat 6000HXC is removable.
1. Power down your receiver and remove the hard drive.
2. Connect the hard drive to your computer with the supplied USB cable as if it were an external HDD. Your computer should automatically detect and install drivers to use it as an external drive. Note: You may have to connect both ends of the USB cable to the PC for the hard drive to get full power. Once it is installed you can access the hard drive just like any other.
3. Locate the HDD on My Computer and double click on it to access it.
4. You will find a folder titled Firmware open this folder.
5. Place the extracted file you downloaded in the Firmware folder.
6. Safely disconnect the HDD and place it back in the receiver.
7. Power the receiver back on.
8. Go to Menu then HDD Interface
9. When in HDD interface go to Software Upgrade from HDD and select it.
10. Choose the correct file to install and press OK. Enter your password (Pansat default is 0-0-0-0). Once this is done it will burn the file to your receiver. DO NOT POWER OFF THE RECIEVER it will reboot completely on its own.

Your file is now installed. No more need for that null modem cable.
