I'm putting this thread out here because all I found was a closed thread about the DishPointer app. I'm hoping to hear what apps everyone has tried and see if there's a consensus on what works well or not. DishPointer is $19.99 so I am trying the free ones first of course.

I'll start: right now I have two apps on my iPhone.

Dish Align This is the first one I tried. It shows you a map and when you select a satellite it shows the angles you need and doesn't seem to do much else at all. I didn't bother trying to find out how much it costs to turn off the ads in this one because I don't use it.

Satellite Pointer - Dish Setup What I was wanting was an AR feature where I can stand where I think I want to mount a dish, and see the view of the sky (or the view of the trees) with a red dot where every satellite is. That's the main feature of this app. It is free with ads, and there is a $5 upgrade that eliminates the ads and enables some other neat features.

Honestly I can't say much for the others. I use Dish Pointer Pro.

i have SatellitePointer and SatFinderLite. I find that SatellitePointer is off by about 10-15 degrees (maybe it's not taking the geographic/magnetic declination) - so to me it's useless.

I used SatFinderLite today and it seemed to work well. I had problems with it in the past on my iPhone5s, but it seems to work fine on my iPhone8 (its South was accurate)

both are free

I've used the DishPointer app for a number of years, but now I'm finding that the free Winegard "TV Signal Finder" app seems to be the equal to it for satellite aiming, and also includes OTA tower locations. It's available for both Android and iOS.

On edit: I should add though, that the Winegard app only includes the DBS satellites for Dish, Direct, Bell, and Shaw, so likely not all that useful to you FTA folks...

I do it really old school! I own a Suunto sighting clinometer/compass (and use Dishpointer apps). ;)
