Picture quality

No, not a cloud in the sky.
I have had Dish in two markets (Flint, MI and Bowling Green, KY) within the last year and have had this issue with locals in both areas on different channels. I had to watch college football / basketball games on the OTA channels because the pixelating was so bad. It doesn't happen all of the time but enough that it is very annoying to say the least.

I recently moved from a 65 inch TV to an 85 inch TV and when I ordered the TV I was fearful of how DISH would look at 85 inches.

Well let me tell you how surprised I was and how good DISH looks on the 85 inch tv. The MPEG 4 encoders have comes a long way over the years and they are able to deliver all these stations looking very good.

People don't know this but DISH is constantly updating and upgrading their encoders to keep giving us a better picture, I know they are not happy saying it looks good enough and always want it to look better.

Last month I was setting up a new TV in the second room we watch TV in. Even though we watch through DISH often sometimes you don't realize how good the picture is.
While setting up the new TV I had the local Fox channel on, came back into the room to finish and thought I was on the TIVO input by mistake, which of course gets the signal OTA. Well I was on the DISH input and the SAT OTA picture was every bit as good as OTA on Tivo. Compared the TV input and the same, DISH was virtually as good as watching direct OTA on the TV.

Many years ago I posted that when I compared OTA direct to the TV and DISH it was very close IMO even then. Now it does seem like DISH has improved the encoders more.

Or you were setting up a newer better TV with better Processing in it .... :)
Just saying ...

The TV in the main room where we watch is from the second year Samsung had 4K, coming up on 12 years old in March. It is not a top end model which at that time was well more than I would be willing to pay. The Picture there is the same - as good as the TIVO OTA.
It is just not something you realize till you compare closely that I have not done in quite sometime.

More TV's today do process better that is true.

what's your thoughts on these new sets??? could you see yourself buying another OLED 🤔. i think the PQ is as good as OLED but with the brightness.. it just makes everything look awesome :). and no burn in issues
I never had an OLED. But just purchased a new 85 Inch TCL QLED. And I love it. :D

    • QLED vs. OLED: Unlike OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode), which has self-illuminating pixels, QLED relies on a backlight, which generally means they cannot achieve the same perfect black levels as OLED. However, QLEDs are typically more durable, do not suffer from burn-in, and often provide better value for larger screen sizes.
Pros of QLED:
  • Extremely high brightness
  • Vibrant, accurate colors
  • No risk of burn-in
  • Good for bright, sunny rooms

Cons of QLED:
  • Not as deep blacks as OLED
  • Narrower viewing angles than OLED
  • Slightly higher response times
QLED is a strong choice for users seeking a bright, colorful, and long-lasting TV, particularly for everyday, mixed-use viewing in, well-lit environments.

Called them to fix another problem a while back, didn't fix it then. I figure they wouldn't find aything wrong.

I can assure you if you do not call them they will NOT find anything wrong so guess you got it
