Program remotes separately so they stop controlling 2 Directv DVRs at same time?

Hello,

We have a new HD Directv DVR, along with the older standard Directv DVR. They're in the same room, but the older one is no longer hooked up to the satellite. We are going to be using it to watch shows from the past few months, while also using the new HD DVR. They both have the exact same remote control. When we try to use one of the remotes (to access the List, for example), it is also accessing the List on the other DVR. Is it possible to program them separately so that each one ONLY controls it's respective DVR and does NOT control the other DVR?

Thanks so much for your help!

Welcome to the site !

You have a few options:
You can set one to RF and the other to IR (Radio Freq. and Inferred) Inferred is line of sight , RF can be controlled from anywhere in the home for the most part.

The other option is to dedicate one to that particular recvr only.

Press and Hold Menu/Select, 961, Channel Up, and the last 6 digits of the recvr ID :)

Thanks for refreshing my memory banks Jason :)
Was that a No on my request, so far ?

You can acutally prog up to 8 different IR codes on the boxes & remotes, so if you want to keep them ALL on IR, you can.
If you use RF, then the # of codes is pretty much unlimited, since it uses the last 6 digits of the RID# on each receiver.
Also, you can also prog EACH remote to separately control up to 3 receivers, the other 2 on AV1 & AV2 slide switch - this is true either in IR OR RF mode.

If you go into the remote setup menu on the receiver, it tells you all how to do it either way...

Hey Dishrich,
I haven't done this in awhile.
Do you set up the remote per the instructions like I mentioned and THEN go in and set for RF, or is there other ways for it to know you want to use RF ?
Or does it know from what the recvr is already on ?

yeah I've got 2 D* receivers set up in the living room. One if for D* and the other is used just for OTA (its an old D10)....

R22 is on sat
D10 is on AV1

as dishrich noted, the remote setup in the menus will show you how to do it

For the HD dvr using the receiver mode option in the menu you have a choice of two IR codesets 00001 & 00003. When using the Advanced setups option you have a choice between 00001-00008.
