So I recorded Project Runway premier in Lifetime HD. I was shocked to see that the series is not filmed in wide screen. Instead Lifetime is taking a square picture and stretching it to fit a wide screen. A fashion show where clothes are designed to fit in a specific way is the absolute worst program to stretch.

Because Lifetime is stretching the picture, I can't use the format button to fix it back to a square picture. Is there any other way to fix a stretched picture? If not, the only option is to record it on the SD Lifetime.

Disappointing. Lifetime I'm sure paid a lot for this show. I don't know why they would blow the premier by stretching it.

The only way to "fix" a stretched picture is to have your display or video processor unstretch it or watch the SD feed. HGTV and Food Network are impossible to unstretch because they don't even use a linear stretch.

This is crazy. Why would they think that anyone would want to watch a stretched picture? wow

You'd be surprised how many people watch a stretched picture and call it HD just because it fills the screen, I'm not talking about HD channels that stretch either, I'm talking 'bout watching something like M*A*S*H in SD, but stretched to fill the widescreen tv :( That's why I figure the stretch channels do what they do... If I come across a linear stretched channel, I'll hit the "4X3" on my TV, that way it'll square back up. But like mentioned earlier, HGTV & Food use the "stretch - 0 - vision" technique, so the center of the screen is normal & the stretch grows the further out the picture goes... in other words, on a close up a person would have a normal sized head, but Frankenstien shoulders..... eeeeewwww. Of course, squareing up the picture doesn't help that :(

Stretch - 0 - vision is what they did for Project Runway. :( I'm going to have to record it on the SD channel. The SD channel looks really bad but at least it isn't stretched.

Yet the All Stars show was pure HD.

Might have something to do with the fact that it was sitting on the shelf for a long time, due to the fight between Lifetime and Bravo. If Bravo had anything to do with it back then, that could explain the lack of true HD. They still don't show half their reality garbage in HD.

Yep, I noticed that the All Star show was in HD so I was really shocked when the new season was not. Bravo probibly produced All Star show and Lifetime choose not to do the new season in HD?

All Star must have been recorded a while back. They were still in New York and Heidi was pregnant.

Actually, Heidi is pregnant now so All Star could be the more recent production in HD.

Ooh could be. Maybe they were only on Los Angeles to film the season and have already moved back and filmed All Star in New York.

That still does not excuse Lifetime for stretching the picture.
