One of the settings you might overlook is AV Settings when playing a DVD .
Block Reduction- 1 to 3

Frame Reduction- 1 to 3

Mosquito Noise Reduction- 1 to 3

I have mine set to 3 for all 3 . It really cleans up a dvd . It won't change how a Blu ray looks however.
