About a month ago my grandfather deceided that he was going to get sat service. After looking at both companys he deceided that Dish was a better fit for him( me being with DirecTv I told him that Dish has more user friendly equipment). I went to the local electronics store and got him a 722k & 211k. We got it all installed over the weekend and when he called Dish today they where wanting his ssc#. Now him being the way he is didn't see a valid reason to give it so he never got hooked up. I told him to call back and if asked again just to give it to the rep and be done with it. Why exactly do they need it? I know when I signed up with Direc I never gave mine.

You probably signed up with Directv before they started doing credit checks.

Your grandfather can do 1 of 2 things....

#1 Provide his SSN

#2 Pay $99 and do a Flex TV account and just pre-pay. No SSN Required.

Its for collection purposes so they can go after him if he doesn't pay his bill. If you do Flex, its pre-pay and you can never owe a bill.
