If I upgrade the firmware.....does it erase all the channels/tp stored?

Yes it will!

You might want to transfer over your channel list to the PC before applying any firmware update. In fact, its not a bad idea to backup your channel list anyway, especially if you spend a lot of time tweaking it and putting it in order.
