Yesterday we had about 3" of rain fall over the day and I had rain fade most of the time on my HD channels with the exception of my locals in HD. The locals had rain fade of very short duration, during times of heavier rain. The other HD channels were affected by rain that I would not have thought would be an issue.

SD channels that I checked (not many) didn't seem affected except in the heaviest downpour.

Here are my signals :

Does this indicate some problem that I need to address? I noticed a few very low numbers, but not all on one bird.

I don't know which transponder your local hd channels are on, but your CONUS hd numbers are slightly low. They are fine for good weather, but would be the first to go in heavier rain, which you found out.

Thanks Chip. From the time my installer spent getting things aligned at the dish, I suspect the numbers are as good as they are going to get. Fortunately we don't usually get real heavy rain that lasts very long. But I had thought some of the slower periods would have been OK. This is the first rainstorm to cause any rain fade that was more than just a couple minutes.

The (s) satellites are spotbeams and you will see 0's and lower numbers. Those are spotbeams that you are on the fringe of

If I see correctly, your locals are from Paducah/Cape Girardeau area?
If so they are on 103 (s) TP 24 & 25 which you show good signal on (just so ya know)

Yep, Paducah DMA. Thanks for the tip.

Which now brings up a question. Since this was a new install and my locals are on 103, why would they use a SL5S setup? I mean, I'm glad they did because I have the sports pack and can get a channel or 3 I wouldn't get otherwise.

The reason is your markets SD locals are on 119 so they have to install the 5 LNB dish

looking at the Directv site you have 3 locals that are SD only
CW 9 (looks like its SD only as its an analog channel and a subchannel on CBS)
PBS 29 (secondary one maybe)?
My 49

The rest are in HD...so they have to install the 5LNB to get those other stations

I forgot about those even though I watch 9 and 49 on occasion.

29 is the PBS out of Paducah itself while 8 is the PBS out of Carbondale, IL and is the more local of the two for me. Two different colleges involved...

And the reason they went out is because its Ka band. The HD I mean. Down here in monsoon South Louisiana a rain will knock out all my HD EVERY time. and I have 97+ on all the 103 TP's. ( in good weather)

So if its raining anything more than a drizzle, I ain't watching HD. Maddening.
