Put a message about my reception problem out on the Voom Yahoogroup on Saturday night. Wilt said he would let Voom know about the problem in a message on Sunday. Got a call from Chris at Installs Inc on Monday morning. Said he would send a larger dish out to the local installer (White Glove). Mitch from White Glove called Wednesday night. Signal strength was 92. Mitch scheduled a service call for larger dish install to be performed on Saturday.

I am EXTREMELY satisfied with Wilt's ability to get things taken care of quickly. I'm not sure White Glove is happy with me for posting my problem, but it is in fact a problem that appears to be well documented by Voom subscribers. If the change improves reception during light to medium rain fall we will be happy.

Since we did not watch Voom for almost two weeks, it would be nice to get some sort of compensation. At $100/mo, one expects things to work. I'm dreaming right?

Cheers to Wilt. He is an incredible asset to Voom. Chris from Installs Inc also appears to be on top of things. White Glove is going thru the motions so no complaints there.

Go Voom!

Re: [VOOM] Rain Fade in Mn: Update

Steven PLEASE keep us all updated on this. for the
past three weeks here in Dallas Tx it has been raining
just about every night and at times all day. So
needless to say I have been watching local basic
Comcast cable. Never had this much outage with my D*
service. I have had installs inc. out 4 times now for
verious reasons including rain fade, but they keep
saying that there is no such thing as a bigger dish
for Voom. Rain fade on Voom is a serious prouble it
seems from what I have read here and on
http://www.satelliteguys.us forums. All I can say is
that I am now in the third month of this and not happy
as I am now down $400 of my money.
You would think that in todays world of technology a
company like Voom would have all this straighten out
before they go live. Are we considered the beta
testers for this? on the positive side I do like Voom
and the HD part of it and whats in store for a PVR.
Lets just hope its not more than $250 for the PVR.
Because then I will be going to alterenative means for
my HD and PVR solution.

OK off my soap box now.

Same thing here in Austin. The rain has been exceptionally strong, but
I'm getting really serious drop outs when the rain is along my line of
sight. We'll just have to see how it works out over the long haul. It
doesn't rain really hard *that* often, but it is annoying and worse
than what I've heard from other satellite systems. Its pretty much like
the caricature of rain fade that the cable companies use in their ads.

Sorry for no updates on rainfade since our larger dish install. We have not had a lot of rain these past few months. A couple days ago we had a big storm roll thru. Below is what I posted in the Satelliteguys forum. Thought I would post here for those that do not frequent the forum.

--snip--

Since the install of our new larger satellite antenna, we have not missed a beat. Funny how if something works well, you just take it for granted and forget about it.

Anyway, we had an extremely hard rainfall the other night. During the storm, I turned on our Dish Network receiver in another room to monitor signal loss. We lost Dish Network for about 10 minutes solid. Voom stuttered for a fraction of a second a few times within a 2-3 minute period and that's it.

Way to go Voom!

Now if we could only get out DVR, Dish Network could go away all together.

Keep up the good work,
