I tried finding an answer to this, but I seem to get conflicting results. I have a VIP-612 and a VIP-211. If I pay the $40 activation fee to turn my VIP-211 into a DVR, can I take the drive from that to the 612 and watch the recordings there? Or do they have to be watched on the 211? Also, will the 211 DVR function just as the 612, or is it going to be different?

The 622/722/722K and 612 uses a different software platform from the 211...not interchangeable. And, for both boxes to use EHD, you will have to pay two activation fees.

According to Dish it is one fee for the whole house. Thanks for the playback info!

Actually, no. One fee for all the 622/722s, etc. in the house. One fee for all the 211's in the house. Unless, they are cutting you a deal. You need to make certain.

612/622/722/722k the EHD is for archiving, on the 211/211k it is for DVR service - different functions.
