Most of the reboots only pay superficial attention to the original. They tend to ignore the intelligence and charm of the original. They go for cheap action and soap opera melodrama instead.
Yes! They keep forgetting the actor was the key to a series success.
Same here. I'll give it a look, but it'll be tough row-to-hoe to equal the original, which I still enjoy in reruns today...
No I don't. Unless it is set in a completely different set of circumstances, you need someone who could echo Garner and I don't see Boreanaz as capable of that (too moody). That's how the Magnum reboot failed...Hernandez wasn't close to being Selleck-ish.
I think that was my (and other's) point in this thread. Reboots are generally a fail (and usually just a bad idea), because an actor who makes an indelible stamp on a character the way James Garner did, well, they just shouldn't try a redux. Just seems like they have to try and get that "magic" back because they think it'll fly with the more recent generations, but it ends up as a fail (usually) because older folks who tend to watch more anyway, gag on their new take on it.
I can think of a few actors (including some females) who might fit the bill.
