You must be talking about DNR, Digital Noise Reduction (page 31 in the manual).

To see the original material as it was intended to be displyed - leave it off.
If noise bothers you - put it on Auto.

Thanks, is it normal to have noise in the picture especially in HD content because when I leave that to off there is alot of grainy picture on HDDVDS and on ESPN HD
 
It depends.
"Purists" want to see the movies how the director intended, i.e. no digital manipulation to the image. For HD DVD this would mean "don't touch it".
For other hidef programming - it depends on the quality of the stream and turning DNR on could be a good idea.

In the end - there is nothing scientific about enjoying a movie. Try different settings and pick the one you like.
