I called skyvision bou my c3 programing ( discov ) channels going off or could
I still receive them on my 922 motorola He said no problem you will get them all
on w5. Travel channel, animal P, tnt , tbs, fox ,cnn, cnnh would be gone
Also found this ,On sat. t4 with my fortecstar rec. found fox news 21 & 49
FMC 21 & 49 Speed 33& 40..NAT CO Wild animals 1 & 29.. Soccor 30..
What is going on ..I do not have the little rip-off dish & will not get..Tv out the door first.. Thanks great site

Not sure I follow this, did they say you will still get Discovery Channel - on W5? That would make my day :)
 
Unless someone knows of a "future" offering, I don't believe the original Discovery Channel is anywhere on W-5. Its the one "loss" I was preparing to take after Dec 31 on my 4D as we migrate to W-5. (and I think TLC, as well.)

That's my concern too...TLC and Discovery Channel :(
 
From what I understand HITS transmits those channels in other Digicipher formats currently that our receivers do not decode. Once the 4D system has been turned off and the 410 programming is on it's own next year, the programming choices will be what is available today on W5.

Hopefully, depending on subscriber numbers, someone will realize there is money to be made with us and expand. This will only happen if people subscribe. If we want more we have to demonstrate our interest.

Last night I heard there are only 5000 DSR410s running and that isn't enough for them to consider changes since we are just riding along with their system without much overhead.
 
Will everything currently on W5 be available after Jan. 1? For example, Encore Westerns East and West are now on W5, but only East is listed in the 410 packages.

That seems low, compared to the heady days of past...

I wonder what they would consider significant enough?

I'm not in satellite distribution. I'm in radio. But, it makes sense that if the equipment is refurbished (which I believe they state it is and there's nothing wrong with that!!!) which the consumer uses and buys themselves, there is very little risk to the providers of the programming (HITS/COMCAST) in having us on-board. In fact, by "adding" money to the programmers and authorizer's income by having 410/converted 4D units on-board. It helps their bottom line, which keeps the HITS system hopefully operating for the cable operators and for us at an acceptable level of service for a long time! Yes, it is about numbers.

What can WE do? I'll bet most of us know someone with an "out of work" larger or compatible dish, and there's a good chance that some of those people are unhappy with the small dish or other services. Simple. Spread the word! I already have a friend who moved into his first home, doesn't want small dish, can't get cable, and the idea of the 410 is a GREAT alternative. Could be a "new" large dish convert. (and we have access to a dish for him!)

The 410's cost less than any of my (bought, not leased) DISH network stuff did! I never did like contracts, so I always owned my equipment. The 410 offerings are a good value in both programming and hardware simplicity!

Spread the word, folks...spread the word...and thank you to SRL for continuing to be a polite, helpful organization. Skyvision, too!!!
 
The bottom line is this. If the profit Comcast makes is high enough things will happen, if not forget it. NPS did in the numbers quite a bit this year and keeps killing them daily. I wish they would close up today, but instead are going to screw things up more till Dec 31. The next big loss of numbers will be after they shut G3 down on the 25th.

For those who are planning in throwing in the towel because of the news channels do not not jump to Dishnetwork. This will make things worse. If you have to get that news fix get DirecTV and get some W5 programming next year.

I can personally add 15 to 20 W5 subs - all my peeps are sick of the small dish.

It works both ways, I get work to set these guys up with W5 and that means subs!

So, I pose the question: What "public relations" organization can help raise awareness of the potential (and former) C-band consumers, (and those upset by the small dishes) option we have still available? (W5) and...help tell the saga? And, who would step to the plate to tell it? There's plenty of us here, but if we want to grow the numbers as indicated, MORE people need to know! Granted we're talking standard definition, but the buzzwords of "choice" and "fair pricing" go far in getting attention of the larger media!

I know everyone's into "new" technology, but....there are people like Leo Laporte (formerly tech TV/ZDTV now "TWIT.TV) who are the tech gurus of the 'net these days. This, as a whole is an interesting story. It involves consumer choice, it involves pricing, it involves alleged lies, and it involves the support-of and support-from a large National company. The more people that know their idle large dishes give them options, the better!

I do what I can locally by mentioning on the air we have "choice" and "better price" with my large dish, but I'm one voice on one radio station in one small county.

If the stupidity of a child playing video games too long on his laptop and burning his legs can make national attention and get a medical name, I would think we have a chance at some awareness! (yes, that was a media story this week!)

The one piece of the puzzle there has to be is the commitment that the 4D will be definitely convertible, and a plan in place for us ahead of time. Then we have more for the (larger) media.

You can count me as one who will be waiting to make the phone call on 1/1/2011 to switch over at least one of my 920's.
 
What will hold me up will be if they kill the generic maps with doing the MR for Comcasts EMM. This is a sore spot for those who are using the 4D as a hobby also. I have had C band since 1987 and one of the cool things about it was when something went in the clear we could watch it. The generic maps utilize the 4DTV's DC decoder for the hobby option. It's something I can't live without. If Mike Kohl can persuade Comcast to do some extra mapping this will have quite an impact on subscription sales I'm sure.

If they could pull off in the future a turn around of not only some of the news channels but some of the big basic cable channels, ones NPS never offered this will be the biggest winning move. If people can have choice without contracts this will sell the product. As far as SD only goes that to me is not an issue. W5 and C band in general always had a good picture with SD. The masters are candy but HITS is more than passable.

As far as advertisement goes how did c band get marketed in the past? Maybe we need too look at that and follow some past proven methods.
 
There is a huge market SRL/HITS could target (people who don't have credit to get either mini dish without a large up front costs, or have already screwed themselves with both mini dish providers, and those of us like me that refuse to do contract TV service (or contracts on anything other than cell phone and rent/mortgage) and live outside the reach of cable) and do so without risk because the customer is responsible for obtaining, installing, and maintaining all equipment and since services are paid for up front there is no risk of customers falling behind on their bills and needing to hire a collection agency.

Also with SRL's W5 you can change your package as you go to flex with monthly income variances and even go a month without if needed.

I think DirecTV is complete morons for not offering a self-install package at wal mart that you buy, own (not lease) then install yourself and pre pay monthly as you go. Cell companies do it, why not TV?

DirecTV and Dish Network has followed the cable model of leasing equipment with a twist. You have to buy the extra receivers in some cases but they own them. (totally stupid) Direct does offer two service suspension terms up to six months each if you run into financial problems even if your under contract. I hate contracts but had one with my DSL which was no biggie. Now I have one with Direct. I look at the contract this way. I'm going to have the service anyway so whats the big deal. It bites you if you try to terminate early or have problems with the provider. Except for rain fade on Direct when bad cells pass through because of ku band it has been a solid good service. It's not plagued like Dish Network is with problems and multi channels lost. I turn it on it my channels are there and it works. Can't ask for much more.

If the 4DTV rebounds it will be great. I am a die hard C bander. I only took Direct for a stopgap measure while C band gets sorted out. When I ordered they pulled the plug totally on c band before SRL/SKY came up with the Comcast SAC plans. I'm still not sold on W5 until they solve the generic issue. If that gets taken care of I'll sub my 922 on c band again.
 
I'm just going to convert my 905 to the 410/W5 service and keep my 922 as is because I use it as a dish mover for my DVB.
