Hi guys,

I just installed directv on the roof of my apartment and the only channels I get bad reception on are STARZ and NFL Network HD

I have a 5LNB slimline with an HD receiver

how do i know what signal strength is appropriate?

on satellite 101, i see the entire 4th row going down (4, 12, 20, etc) are 0 along with 26 being zero.

is this right?

here's my 101:

96 95 94 0(sometimes 19) 95 100 95 99
95 96 94 0 95 100 95 100
95 100 95 0 96 100 95 100
95 0 94 100 94 99 94 100

You need to do some tweaking:

I just looked at my 101 readings:
The only ones I consider really low is 18 and it is at 49 and 28 that is at 0
The 28 being zero is normal for where I am at, the 49 on Trspndr 18, I'm not sure what area it covers and I'm not concerned about it at all.

The rest of them are between 86 and 100.

1-8 : 91, 95, 87, 97, 86, 97
9-16: 86, 95, 86, 100, 89, 98, 88, 98,
17-24: 89, 48, 89, 100, 89, 98, 91, 98,
25-32: 91, 97, 91, 0, 95, 99, 93, 98

No, those signals are good, there's no tweaking needed. Several of the 101 transponders carry spotbeams and so will read anything between 0 and 100 depending on where you are located. I think the spotbeams are TPs 4,12,18,20,26 and 28.

I have directv hd and notice that espn and a few other channels brake up sometimes even in clear weather. The dish seems to be aligned right so I checked the signal strengths and got the following results: 101...93%, 110...95%, 119...73%, 99a...26%, 99b...0%, 103a....0%, and 103b.....73%. Do I need to adjust the dish and if so to what settings? Also, are there 7 satellites up there or 5?

See my reply in the thread you created with the exact same message

Texas,
He has next to nothing on the 99 sats ....

Also "on satellite 101, i see the entire 4th row going down (4, 12, 20, etc) are 0 along with 26 being zero."

If his entire 4th row is low, that's NOT right

I don't have that issue, why should he, if I live in one area and that causes low signals on a few , then should he have low on a different seeing he lives somewhere else ?

If his numbers are bouncing around that bad then he has a problem somewhere .

He did not give any 99 readings in his post.
On the spotbeam transponders (the ones I listed) you can have completely different readings from his. If you are in a particular spotbeam you could have a signal strength of 100 and if he is nowhere near a city using that spotbeam he could have zero. If he lost the whole of the 4th row that would definitely be a problem but then he quotes the numbers of the TPs where he sees problems and they are all spotbeams.

My entire 4th row is 0s, as well as TR 18. Every install I have done over the past 3 years has been that way

Sorry Tex, I got the posters mixed up, it was another poster that said they had nothing on the 99 (jl2804)

On the 101 you should have signals on the bottom row, that said, I have 0 on 28, I believe that one is always that way at least where I live...
