Nope not on 129, and when I hit recall 10 minutes ago I only have 12 siriusxm channels.

Yeah, a lot of them were moved this morning to 129 TP 23 and 129 TP 29. I will take a look at this more later because I messed something up in my spreadsheet that I need to fix, so I could be a channel or two off :)

I lost a handful of XM channels a week or so ago, today I am down to 16 channels.
I have a 110/119 dish and a 61.5 dish for the Philadelphia HD Locals no 129 dish.
Is this a permanent change?

I am in Kentucky and have 110/119 on dish but not 129, and am missing most of the XM channels, do I need to contact Dish or wait to see if they restore access ? Just noticed this morning and googled if anyone else had same concern. What should I do ?

One Jim Smith to another, my guess is that you have an older receiver, not a VIP or Hopper setup, correct?

You probably need to contact Dish and have them change your dish setup and replace your receiver(s) with newer ones that are MPEG4 capable because Dish is shutting down MPEG2 transmissions on 110/119/129.

MPEG4 takes up approximately 1/2 the bandwidth as MPEG2 and they can put more channels on fewer satellites.

They might even move you to the eastern arc of satellites if your local channels are there.

I have the ViP211z receiver, this MPEG4 capable correct ? Now what ?

Yup; it can handle MPEG4 just fine. I think the issue for you is you don't have 129. As Dish is repacking their channels, some channels, such as the audio channels, have been moved onto 129, preventing you from listening to them. This may resolve itself at some time in the future. But getting 129 would fix it in the short term.

If you have 61.5 is there a reason you're installed also for 110/119?

We are working on a solution for 110/119 that don't have 129 for sirius, the channels will likely be moved back to either 110 or 119 at some point...but if you have LOS to 61.5 you could also just do a full EA install and be fine.

Thanks

I suspect the Dish is temporary shifting some of the 110/119 lesser channels to 129 to make room for other channels to be shifted from 129 to to 110/119.

Once all of the initial shifting is completed, those lesser channels that were shifted to 129 will likely be put back onto 110/119. That will make it possible to EOL 129 usage. It’s just a big shuffle game to move (it seems) everything to 110/119.

Usually an install like this has no los to the 72

Hi Josh,

Us Caribbean (Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands) customers are 110/119 only, we can't get 129, so the shuffling of some much loved channels (402 - ACC Network in particular) is most distressing. Hopefully it will be back soon. 142-ESPN News disappeared for a few days, then came back upgraded to HD! I am patient, but please don't forget about channel 402 in the Caribbean.

That is a great point. ACC Network now has both the SD and HD versions on 129 which is why you don't see it. Seeing the pattern of how the HD channels have moved to 119, my guess is that you are going to be seeing the HD channel moved to the 119 satellite in the near future.

Totally understand for people outside of conus and unfortunately there are no perfect solutions for AK/HI/PR/VI at this time. For 402 they moved the mpeg-2 version from 119 to 129, and we're no longer going to have mpeg-2 content at the end of this project so that was always going away. I'll do some digging, but this one is marked as if the mpeg-4 hd is supposed to be on 110 - I will try to follow up.

The way they're making changes is to hopefully limit impact on the AK/HI/PR/VI customers, and as things are shifted around there are some back-end procedures that need to be confirmed/corrected (mainly blackout rules that have to be implemented correctly). Channels may pop in and out as this process continues and i'll do my best to answer any questions you all have.

My understanding is that ending MPEG-2 was going to free up a lot of bandwidth, so what is the problem with keeping channels alive for AK/HI/PR/VI?

During transition channels have to move from transponders on 110 to 129. As those free up transponders on 110 there will be room to move the MPEG-4 channels to transponders that now have free room. This takes a bit of planning to cause the least disruption and that takes time. It is said that the entire project will be complete this July. We have seen that some channels that went away are now back so the plan seems to be working. You just can't do a wholesale move one way and then back.

Yes sir. There are a ton of moving parts that I won't (and can't) go in to detail about. Hopefully we make everything happen with as few hiccups as possible, but there are going to be some blips along the way that you guys will notice (as you are all much more observant that the average viewer).

As a tech agent, I really wish we would have been made aware of this. I only know about this from this and another forum I belong to.

I see so many agents getting these calls, not being aware of what's going on, and sending tech after tech out to fix the "Missing channel" issue. which won't fix the issue, and ends up with frustrated and upset customers.

And techs getting hits on their metrics for BS R12's, wasting money on truck rolls, making it harder to schedule other customers as we are extremely busy now and hitting office metrics for the extra truck rolls, the jobs without sales opportunities, etc. Not to mention the insanely long waits on hold for a DASH rep since the cyber attack.

It's long been an issue with the boots on the ground how the CSR's are not informed about things that we know are known issues and one of the reasons for the perception that Dish is OK with techs and subs losing money over things like this.

The techs in my office only know about this because I read this forum and relay the information, otherwise they would be wasting time and receivers trying to fix something that has no fix.

Josh. Are you allowed to say when approximately the MPEG2 -> MPEG4 conversion on the WA is expected to be completed?
