SkyAngel Plans Move to IPTV

"real world"

Aren't Christians called to come out from the world?

God isn't going to remove us from sin. We have to choose for ourselves which road to follow!

2 separate businesses yes one Canadian and one USA yet BOTH are "Sky Angel". If we support one we support the other!

The fact is that most Christians are not interested in "Christian TV". I know personally from promoting Sky Angel (and Christian TV in general) for years. Many consider most "religious" TV to be comprised of false teachers that distort the Scriptures for their own financial gain (this is true to a large extent). Entertainment and sports is another major requirement for most Christians; why do you think Sky Angel added the secular channels (it didn’t help anyway)? Most people would ask if Sky Angel carried "family" programming such as Little House on the Prairie and Touched by an Angel, I know of pastors that weren't interested because they (SA) didn't offer sports. I tried to promote the excellent radio channel as well with little (or no) success. I became disheartened and stopped promoting Sky Angel and Christian TV in general. It is ironic though that there are enough viewers to keep the false teachers wealthy.

Sky Angel had a good business model but they didn’t know at the time (which they know now) that few Christians would be interested. All of the advertising and promotion in the world would not have changed that fact.

I never had anyone I spoke with about SkyAngel interested enough to actually sign up. I was a very happy customer until recently and even wore my free SA shirt. I don't know why Christians complain about secular TV, but will pay $50 or more a month to have it delivered to their home.

That link was broken, but I found this one: NeuLion Launches Sky Angel Programming

One other option would be Dish Family, since you currently have the Dish receivers.

Some people object to some of the programming shown on some of the channels though.

This link lists all of the channels on Dish Family:
DISH Network -- DISH Family

Dish Family doesn't have the Liberty Channel, the History Channel or FoxNews, so it's out for us.

As it was mentioned earlier in this thread, 3ABN is associated with an IPTV system that will carry lots of Adventist programming. But I see no reason why they wouldn't continue to be on SA-IPTV as well, along with SafeTV. It is another platform to spread their message.

If anything, I think Sky Angel at least showed the potential of an independent Christian TV system. And this has encouraged others to get into the business as well. So ultimately they did serve some purpose to further the gospel. And I personally feel it was all worth it if it made a difference in one person's life. And I know it did that, multiple times over.

We have certainly gotten our money's worth over the years. We first subscribed to SA when we were expecting our daughter. The last few years have been wonderful watching her enjoy Christian and family friendly programming without worryiing about her viewing filthy shows or picking up bad words. We will miss Ken Hamm, Falwell, LU shows, and many of the great kiddie shows.

Another thing that they probably never thought of.
Even though I have a high speed connection, I have a limit on my bandwidth used each month.
My wife and I are going back to finish our degrees. The schools are online. Between that and 3 kids, plus a Home Automation server downloading lots of data we come close to our limit each month. If you add TV into that bandwidth usage my usage would be a LOT higher. 5 people watching tv. One receiver is on 24 hours a day as when we go to bed we have it on a music channel.

No way I am going to buy a new IPTV box, pay for monthly service and pay more for my Internet connection.

Our broadband will not be able to handle our internet needs and television needs.

I have to agree. SA* has not stated its plans for the future, at least not directly to subscribers, or lifelong subscribers. So they should have a chance to do so. But the clock is ticking.

We haven't received as much as an email about any of this. Of course each time SA made a programming change I usually had to find out about it on the boards.

This is all horrible then! If its true as it appears then sky Angel has joined hands with the devil. If this is true then their canadian affiliate is now a major porn player :( How in the world has this happened?

OK, if you weren't on the internet I would believe you. Fact is the internet has Christian websites and evil websites existing side by side and you still use the internet. I don't think our church should take down it's website because someone could go to an improper one right after.

Your "logic" is a bit off......

To say you would believe me IF I wasn't online is like saying I won't watch any TV because some companies broadcast porn. Now if I found out that MY internet provider also had porn websites, yes I would switch companies!

Most "christians" who profess to not want "christian TV" probably have 1)never actually seen it and 2)are caught up in the "worldly" shows. If you wouldn't want to watch it with jesus seated besdie you then it probably shouldn't be viewed at all.

As for Fox news you can both read it and watch it online so that should not be the only deciding factor.

In looking into glorystar there are actually better programs for children on there now! We have been watching smile of a child online until we can get a glorystar system!

The sad reality that porn while harmful and sinful has become a part of even those who profess to be Christians lives. I blieeve a recent survey (if you believe surveys) said over 50% of PASTORS admitted to viewing pornography!

Lord, Lord ,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
Many will say to Me in that day, ‘ Lord, Lord …'
And I will declare to them,
‘I never knew you; depart from Me,
you who practice lawlessness.
~ Jesus in Matthew 7:21-23

Many we worship with choose to have no TV, radio or internet. Some will access the internet in public libraries only. We have chosen to have our computer in the kitchen to keep everyone accountable, along with many software safeguards as well. The internet scares Christians but can also open a whole new world of bible studies, homeschooling information and more. Our only TV is skyangel. Even so there was an afternoon, about 6 or 7 years ago when skyangel broadcast pornography. At the time, they blamed the problem on DISH and as far as I am aware it has never been repeated.

um no you don't. SA Canada is only available to Canadians and SA US is going to be available ot only US citizens. So unless you have a home in Canada, you are only supporting SA US.

They are two different companies...as noted above, Dish Network has an association with SA and Dish sells porn channels. Some are pretty hardcore. SA has Fox News Channel which has those "get your manhood back up" commercials...oh no!

Dish Family doesn't have the Liberty Channel, the History Channel or FoxNews, so it's out for us.
-Fox News Channel is on Dish Family
-History right now is not
-Liberty CAN'T be on Dish right now because of the exclusive agreement with SA...Now if SA allows Dish to carry it they probably would carry it in the Family Pack

OK, if you weren't on the internet I would believe you. Fact is the internet has Christian websites and evil websites existing side by side and you still use the internet. I don't think our church should take down it's website because someone could go to an improper one right after.

very well put!

Yes but skyangel canada and US all financially support Bob Johnson CEO who is ultimately responsible for the decisions skyangel makes.

As for those "manhood" commercials how would you like to be sitting next to a young niece, daughter etc and have them ask you what that is for!

If Dish were not as secretive about its plans as is SA it would help considerably. I don't know what to plan for and it doesn't appear that Glorystar has everything I want either.

Contact the channels that are missing and tell them you want to see them on Glorystar. Many don't even know what it is.

Actually, I would like to see them available through Dish Network since I already subscribe to them. I understand Dish would not add all of the channels available, just wondering if they will be adding at least a few Christian channels once Sky Angel leaves satellite.

I was reading HEBREWS THROUGH A HEBREWS EYES in which the author ( Dr. Stuart Sacks) quoted a prayer found pinned to the garment of a dead child at Ravensbruck.

O Lord, remember not only the men and women of good will but also those of ill will.
But, do not remember all of the suffering they have inflicted upon us: Instead remember the fruits we have borne because of this suffering; our fellowship, our loyalty to one another; our humility, our courage, our generosity, the greatness of our heart that has grown from this trouble.
When our persecutors come to be judged by by you, let all of the fruits that we have borne be their forgiveness.

I do not mean to infer that SA is an instrument of ill will, but that our actions are more important than SA's, as some of you have already pointed out.

Hopefully if SA sells the DBS satellite space to Dish, they also will allow Dish to carry some fo the channels.

Right now most of those channels have a "exclusive agreement" with SA

sky angel agreement?

sky Angel says that our LIFETIME agreement ends with the end of DBS. Therefore the "exclusive" agreement should end with the end of DBS also, correct?

I can almost anticipate SA saying that the "exclusive" carries over as long as Skyangel is in business. If the "exclusive" carries over to IPTV then shouldn't the lifetime as well?....

Guess we will have to watch this one play out and see if sky angel wants to have its cake and eat it too!

SA's exclusivity rested in its being the only FCC licensed DBS provider of Christian programming and the specific nature of its contract with Dish. When the FCC licensed frequencies are transferred both of those conditions are out the window.

Bye Bye Lifetime Subscriptions

I sent an e-mail to SA to ask them what will happen to lifetimers. Here is the response that they sent me.

Thank you for contacting Sky Angel. Our current subscribers will simply
need to use an IPTV set-top box that will allow them to connect their
television to high-speed Internet and then they can continue to enjoy
and appreciate the same high-quality programming we have always
provided. For Lifelong subscribers: The terms of your lifelong
subscription state that the subscription is for the life of the
satellite delivery system. It is unfortunate that we have been unable to
solicit the financial support to continue offering that service. We
value your support for our vision and hope you will continue to keep the
future of Sky Angel in your prayers. At this time, we are still working
out those details for the equipment and the cost. More information will
be provided about the transition during the coming months.

Thanks,

Mary
Sky Angel

not as "simple" as they make it appear

1)you need to PURCHASE new equipment "simply need to use an IPTV set-top box " notice NO mention of the words BUY, PURCHASE, OWN COST etc

2)you will need to PAY a monthly fee as they say "lifetime is ending"

3) need to subscribe to HIGH SPEED internet (seems they forgot to mention that part!) Without this all the equipment in the world won't get you skyangel via IPTV

4)they were supposed to launch NEW satellite in 2002,and did NOT fulfill their obligation

5) the most INSULTING part "unable to solicit the financial support to continue offering that service" (DBS) In other words it doesn't matter that WE the LIFETIME MEMBERS gave them FINANCIAL SUPPORT eg PAYMENT in advance, they now want MORE MONEY "financial support"! they hope to do this how, with IPTV?

what guarantee do we have that they will get the "financial support" necessary to continue IPTV? People could lose all the $ for IPTV equipment if Sky Angel shuts that down due to lack of subscribers. Unless they have enough Canadian subs that they can afford to kiss the USA goodbye?

I am getting VERY tired of this and the class action suit is starting to look more and more appealing! They (sky angel and nancy in particular) only answer when, whom and IF they choose. Still NO letter offering information to subscribers, monthly, yearly, 10 yr or lifetime! this affects ALL of their subscribers

I thought you were already in favor of such a lawsuit. I am not sure what you would expect to get out of it, other than possibly putting them out of business quicker. Remember, you can only get money where money exists. I don't think they are exactly rolling in it. If they were "forced" to continue lifetime subs on the IPTV it would likely just doom the venture, though the venture may be doomed anyway.

lawsuit

No actually if you look back I felt we needed to give skyangel a chance to offer some sort of package for the lifetime members. I did not join the current class action suit, think we should reserve judgment for a bit longer. I did ask what the plans to sue were for, financial compensation, service etc

Although the lack of communications for months now is wearing thin. I am tired of getting news about sky angel from press releases :( I did say that I don't have a Scriptural problem with suing them as they are not "A christian" and have no problem suing themselves.
