I'm sure this has been covered here somewhere, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so forgive me if my question is redundant.

I want to split/multiply my Direct TV signal so I can add more boxes/sets to my system. I also want to add a HD DVR in my family room, where most of our viewing takes place.

I have a relatively new Direct TV dish. It was installed by Direct TV in the past few months. They said I needed this dish because of the digital changeover. I haven't yet inspected the dish, but it has four cables coming in to my house.

During the original Direct TV installation a few years ago, the installer tied into the rooms in the attic (rather than sending home runs to the basement where there is a junction to get to each room). I am now re-doing this and sending the cables from my dish down to the basement. Once that is done I would like to split the signal so I can get more boxes on the system.

With four outputs from my dish, how many times can I split them? What do I need to do this?

Thanks,

Dave

It has been covered thoroughly dozens of times but the search keywords aren't something that a newbie would know to look for.

The answer is a Zinwell WB68 6x8 multiswitch. Try searching for Zinwell WB68.

The number of splitters you can use is, at most, NONE. Splitters cannot and must not be used.

I'm assuming that you have the latest DIRECTV dish (you need to confirm one way or the other), any old multiswitches in the attic that were left over cannot be used with the new dish.

I'd ask DIRECTV about installing the additional receiver and see what they say. If you don't like their answer (either technically or financially), you need to run all four cables into the WB68 and then run the outputs of the WB68 to the individual tuners scattered around the house. DVRs require two cables each.

Here's a thread with some basic diagrams: http://www.satelliteguys.us/directv-forum/159609-need-help-hooking-up-dish-receivers.html

Harshness, You are exactly right. I wasn't sure what I was looking for. I guess 'splitting' was not the correct term. This is exactly what would like to do. Eight outputs is plenty. I will double-check my dish and search out the Zinwell multiswitch. Thanks.
