Switch to Joey4?

Advertisements
bought my hopper 3 from solid signal with 2 joey 4k then i upgraded to the joey 4 buying two of them off of dish directly since they were the cheapest place to get em!!! i had the protection plan they came out and hooked them up and activated em with no issues and no hopper plus.
Because you bought them

The agent may only do the work order that way, but they can install the Joey4 without the plus. Or.... they can install the plus, and then remove it.
I did that on the TV with the Hopper3. At that time, the plus did not support PIP or Multiview. Now, the plus will support that, but it will force 4K HDR flagged output for all content. The only way to avoid that issue is to disable HDR on your HDMI input unless you are actually watching HDR content.
They installed just a Joey 4 without the plus and did it for free after telling them I bought a 4k Joey and they took away my 4k. Talk to DISH loyalty, you will have better luck!

Only things I miss after switching to Joey 4 are using the 40.0 remote (by far the most usable) and the caller ID! Is there any other way to get the caller ID to show on your screen while watching Joey 4?

The Joey 4s are very good. My only small complaint about the Joey 4s and the Plus (which I only had for a few days), is that the output is flagged as HDR 100% of the time. This will force your TV to use the same HDR settings for SDR content, which can result in a less than ideal picture.

Ideally, when watching SDR content, you will likely not have the TV at full brightness, just for one example. This will save wear on the TV. Your color and contrast settings should be for the best SDR content.

When watching HDR, content, you may want to allow the TV to use 100% of the backlight/brightness. The HDR content will limit that if the content is not supposed to be bright.

The solution to this issue is to set your TVs HDMI setting to enhanced, etc.
only when watching HDR Content, and make all of the setting adjustments independently for for each content type. A minor inconvenience.

The alternatives are to either adjust your picture settings every time you change from HDR to SDR, or just put up with the same settings for both types.
I suspect this is what most people will do, not understanding the difference.

Labels by TV Brand
    • Sony: Enhanced Format or Enhanced Format (Dolby Vision / VRR)
    • Samsung: Input Signal Plus (older models use HDMI UHD Color)
    • LG: HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color
    • Vizio: Full HD Color
    • Philips / Panasonic: HDMI Ultra HD / Mode 2 (2.0)
Will this ever be corrected?
Is there a work around?

No it will not be corrected it is a Chipset issue. And its not a DISH issue, most Google TV / Android TV boxes being released have the same issue.

With that said DISH did do some major work on this and the non HDR stuff that was washed out before is no longer washed out. For most folks they would never know HDR was on when there wasn't HDR.

So you are saying there is no issue now?

I would say to my eyes it is fixed. But some extreme purists may say its not right as the HDR light or notice still shows up on the screen.

For 99.97% of the people out there I think it will be fine. :)
What's this HDR light that pops up is the the green light that pops up on the right hand side of the screen? And will not go away until you reboot the joey 4

Is this just an issue with joey 4 and not hopper 3?

Note I have Two H3 (not one H3) and and 2 Joey 4k

Last time I inquired about this was like year 2 ago? they where gonna give me 2 H plus and 2 joey 4.0, was all confirmed and scheduled, 24h I got call from some Tech manager saying they can't Two H plus as it wont work with two h3 setup, I said fine just give me send the guy with the two joey 4.0 to replace Joey 4k or send them to me and I will do it, guy said they send tech. 2 days later they tech came, told him I was waiting for two joey 4.0 to replace two joey 4k I have, he told me he his work order was to replace two joey 4k with two joey 4k.

I have not tried since. If I can get them to replace two joey 4k with two joey 4.0 and for free, cause I not gona pay for any HW upgrade not after 25+ years more inclined to cancel dish
have you retried to get the joey 4 if so how did you make out?
