Terrible call to DiSH

I hear ya. I really loved the 722k. I had four of them at the same time back in the day. What a difference with the Hopper 3 Plus. It is super awesome compared to VIPs.

The hopper 3 is a big upgrade from the HS-17 it's more powerful i can't imagine how slow a 722 would be

I just tell them it's completely dead and won't do anything to avoid the flowchart of checks they have. I hung on to my ViPs too long, should have switched to a Wally long before I did.

That is the only way to avoid the trouble shooting crap.

I did however do that with a Genie and DIRECTV tech support, and the idiot sent me another power supply.

Called a day later and tried the same thing and the person in tech support said the replacement power supply didn't arrive yet. I had to wait another 2 days to continue the game

Sometimes I think they think of anything not to send a tech or replacement receiver. SAD

If it's crashing and rebooting, it's usually the caps. Pull the cover and see if any are bulging.

I'll have to have a look once it's replaced. I thought issue with caps is that they dry out

I feel that they have a service dept. that can replace bad caps. I used to do it myself on the Toshiba 80 & 100.

But these aren't going down from caps, but rather hard-drive fails?

And what would the repair cost be.. it might cost more than the box is even worth

We had a genie client get struck by a power surge to the point it blew a hole in it.. they sent an idiot right out.. Most of the dtv techs looked like they were in there misery and very unhappy there was a very few worth there weight in gold. and the clown that answer the phones.. who in the hell hired them just threw em in chairs and gave em DR suess books to read from they was more confused than i was!!! it took one idiot 2 hours to activate the gemini box!!! worked that night next morning the activate deactivate screen popped up . it's funny how they know you didn't get the power supply yet they never gave us tracking numbers what so ever... one time they shippedus an hs-17 with the wrong power supply

I had a big electrolytic cap blow. It spewed sticky brown liquid inside the case and stunk up the room for several days.

They'll send you a power supply to put in? I don't remember whether Echo even did that back when all the switching power supplys were going bad in Tracker 5's.

yes dtv will send out power supplys.. they sent us the server and power supply though. but at that time someone put the wrong power supply in the box as it would not fit into the server unit.. we just sent it back

OK, got the replacement 722k today. Shiny, like new in shrinkwrap. Swapped it, downloaded it, all good. So I called DiSH to activate and of curse, heh, eh, of course, everything then went sideways. I gave the gal the bad rx's info, then the replacement rx info...but nuttin' comin' on. Then she said something about a "balance" and wants to know where I got the replacement rx. From DiSH - the box says Suwanee, GA. Then she says she can't activate because I've been flagged as an upgrade to hopper & joey. I tell her no, I don't want a hopper, the deal is just to turn on this 722 that you just sent! Then she says it'll likely take a day or so to undo whatever's gumming up the system to be able to activate and so I just let her go to spin the CSR wheel again.

The next one also commented that I was down for a hopper, which I again asked to "pulleeeeze" 86, but she did end up getting the activation to go, and left me with a warning not to try to sell the deactivated 722k. But you probably guessed it, yet another call because my 2nd 722, which hadn't had any issue, and which I had specified was to remain in service, was now deactivated. Gal couldn't even find any record of it on my account as deactivated and had to add it on as new equipment, even though it's been on the account for years. But then at least it came back on.

When i bought my hopper and at that time before i got the joey 4.. they told us that my 4k joey could not be activated but the hopper could be. of course i just about blew my sprockets after buying off solid signal!!! so what did i do i went over to the outdoors dept and i had them run the numbers!!!! they told me both were clean i even had the guy repeat that .... you would figure they would make sure the boxes are clean before selling or replacing em unless it's head games to get people to upgrade and lease vs own..
why don't you want a hopper .. i am also thinking there starting to put eveyone on the hopper platform a hopper of some sort and deactivating old hardware!!!

I was pulling my hair out with the HS-17 because the HDD was always playing catch up . and when there was like 80 on demand shows downloaded to it. it was a real battle to delete em!!! the hopper don't have that issue!!! it's fast responsive and fluid...

Actually a family member had called them and just went along with the standard song & dance they have now and consented to a hopper. I guess that's all they need to get now and it's off to the races. It wasn't mandated. I suppose that at some point they'll have everyone on hoppers and/or wallabys who at some point fail to stand up to them...which will be most. All the calls I made to them started off with that I'm eligible for hopper...do you want to do hopper...?

I'm sure they will love the hopper!!! and if there getting the hopper 3 they will be in there glory and prob wonder how they lived without it . id'e recommend the joey 4 for clients as it's faster and more fluid than the 4k joey . an hs-17 is newer than a 722 and the hs-17 was a snail to the hopper 3
