The OFFICIAL DISH / HBO Thread

I just read that Comcast is dropping Cinemax. I wonder how this might affect the Dish/HBO stalemate?

Comcast is not dropping it completely. I wondered about that "bereaved customers" line at the bottom of the Multichannel piece and in the original article on Cablefax, we get the rest of the story:

So, it's clearly a way to add product value, not necessarily a cost saver or a way to 'stick it' to AT&T.

I would say it is Cingular destroying another great company, Cingular bought ATT and then changed their name to ATT before going on to destroy all the rest. Yeah I know nitpicking but then somebody has to pick the nits.
I'm probably wrong (memory's not that great on that), but didn't Cingular merge with Verizon?

Things to make you go "hmmm..."
Dish just relabeled the "official" Netflix channel 370 as NFLX, but channel 302 still has the old label of NTFLX. Also, while channel 370 has the Netflix logo in the Guide, channel 302 continues to only show the Dish logo. Since Dish did not bother to update channel 302, I would think that is another sign pointing to an impending removal of that channel. For what it's worth, I think I like the old NTFLX label better. NFLX could easily be misinterpreted as being an NFL-related channel. NFLIX would be slightly better, but could still have the same problem.

That may be true but ATT also destroyed every company they bought before they were bought so it must be any company named ATT

Ha. That's how Comcast is spinning it but it's definitely a cost-saver for them. Instead of paying AT&T whatever the wholesale rate is for each of those Cinemax subscribers (maybe $6 each), Comcast is paying much less to give them Hitz, which will be a collection of 200+ (probably old) movies.

I'm wondering if Cinemax is going to survive as its own separate service or if AT&T might fold it into their big streaming service to launch this fall, which is rumored to be named HBO Max. That name suggests that it's a combo of HBO + Cinemax. From everything I read, it definitely sounds like AT&T is throwing just about everything they've got (except for sports and news) into HBO Max to make it as big and appealing as possible to turn HBO into a Netflix killer. Cinemax really doesn't have a very big library of original content (and they show pretty much the same movies as HBO) but it's possible that it will get dumped into the new streaming service.

First, like your handle..GO CUBS!

We moved to HBO NOW app. Running it on AppleTV. Main reason was for final season of GoT. It works really well. IMO, after time, more people will move on to other methods, so their negotiations may be for naught and fall through.

Punctuation is your friend. Your post makes me sad

Yeh, I prefer HBO Now to "the old ways".

Yeh, I prefer HBO Now to "the old ways".

Why?

I/We prefer watching what's currently airing or setting the DVR...It's more convenient to have an All-N-1 Package than having to have multiple products & remotes for our multiple TVs to get our Fix!

HEY DISH-->I'm willing to pay for HBO/Cinemax! I don't like higher fees...BUT...I'm sure I'm not alone if ya offered it.
