ok guys, here we go again with repointing my c band dish. last time i didnt get the arc set proper and could only get a few sats to come in. what would be my true south sat to point at going by my lat and long.
lat -42.8
long- 80.3
im getting bummed out not being able to get my proper arc back. now my dish is perfectly centre just need proper sat. thanks guys

Your true south SAT is 79W (AMC 5). This SAT is KU only so your BUD would need to be able to get KU in order to point to AMC 5.

im only set up for c band on my bud. how would 87w work for me as its the closet sat for c band.

After fiddling with 85º also my true south sat, and then nearby sats, I finally got my C-band dish on the arc by sighting it on Polaris (North Star). Went out at night, lined up the axis of the dish mount with Polaris, locked it down and went to bed. Next day started sweeping the arc. Perfect! Arc set using no sat signals at all. See this posting.

I would suggest aiming at AMC9 at 83. That's C-band too.

I would move the dish to it's highest point, ie centered, then you might bump it a bit to the west a couple degrees, since you're hitting a sat a couple degrees west of your longitude.

Put your receiver on the 3805 V freq and 4166 SR mentioned in the above link, and search for the signal, via axis elevation and moving whole mount on pole.

Think convergence, sweep the arc, make SMALL corrections, & repeat.

Looks possible that you need to find and get the "Zenith" position first. That would be the position where the topmost edge of the dish is the highest above the ground. From there, going in either direction, that edge will be getting lower to the ground.

For my Birdview, I have been using a big carpenter's square on the back of it, against the flat aluminum plate and the box steel there. How you do yours depends on what your thing looks like.

The other thing you need to know is, around the Zenith position, how many clicks does it take to go one degree. Then however many clicks that is to get from zenith to, say 83 west (2.7 degrees) I'd click it west that amount. Then leaving it there I'd move all the other adjustments to peak 83.

In other words, one use of the motor to go west 2.7 degrees and then spin the dish on the pole and move the dish up and down until you get 83. Lock everything in right there and see if you have the arc.

well things have went from bad to worse. ive spent relentless hours outside trying to hit the 83w sat with no hope in sight. my viewsat extreme i use for pointing isnt showing any quality but about 10 to 35 signal. it does how ever blip the quality from 0 to 65 and then its gone.it does this no matter where i point the dish. ive even blind scanned when it does that and nothing comes up.ive replaced the coax several times and even tried skewing the lnb and till nothing.any ideas to what miht be causing this to happen. hell i pointed the dish right into the neighbours tree and it blipped signal, lol thanks guys

You have entered and tripled checked that the correct LNB / Switch settings are entered into the receiver?
Can you check the receiver on a know aligned Dish, even a Dishnet Dish will work?

Can you list all the details of your setup?

im using the same set up ive always used and its worked for years.
my lnb is set to standard
lnb freq= 5150
lnb power is on
i dont use any switches but i only get c band on my bud set up.
realignment of this dish is harder then i thought.this spring we had to pour more cement as th dish tilted backwards alot, since it became plumb it been goofy ever since.ive spun the dish east and west and cant even hit a known satellite.
i tried that last week and it worked fine but now nothing.i did skew the lnb a bit and maybe that the problem but im thinking its not that.the lnb is pretty much centred at 0 degrees i guess you would say. i read that for the 83w sat it should be about 4 degrees so if its at 0 or 2 degree it shouldnt make that much of difference. right?

Signal seems low, but that may be normal. Sweep the sky, Left to right, by rotating the mount on the pole with the dish at it's highest with the actuator,( or a bit east if nearest sat is east, slightly west is nearest sat is west. if no Q, adjust elevation, not declination, and repeat.
Then when you get Q. fine adjustments to elevation and rotation to maximize Q. Then drive dish e or w and look for tp's on adjacent sats. when they start getting weak, adjust rotation only to peak them. Repeat. When you've peaked at the furthest east or west, go back to center and check adjust elevation, if necessary. Then go back to the end and check levels. repeak rotation if necessary.
Remember- small adjustments - wait for receiver to get and display Q - repeat
3805 V freq and 4166 SR on AMC 9 @83W is what I's use for Zenith sat, so instead of having the dish at it absolute highest, I'd bump it a bit west with the actuator first.

Are you using a Voltage Controlled LNBF, or CoRotor style feedhorn?

Also, have you tried replacing the RG6 cable?

woohoo ive finally hit the 83w sat and it turned out the viewsat has gone screwie. so i pulled out my old magnum 3300 and we hit the 83w bang on. im getting between 52% and 62% strong signal. is that about how strong that transponder should be?:up

Maple, quality readings vary from box to box (and other variables), so you can't really compare your quality percentages accurately to what others may see on their setups.

Main thing is you found it and are making progress, congrats. :up

well ive been trying my best but can only seem to get from 87w to 107 w on the arc. since you guys said to point at 83w my dish doesnt seem to go as far west as it used to either.it use to point almost to 148w but now it looks to be only turning to about 121 w. now i have set the dish to its highest point and targeted out 83w, then i had to reset the old c band receiver and start saving the sats again as well as setting the limits. now i cant fint 83w but maybe i have to move the dish up or down a bit, no worries there, but how come i cant go as far west as i could before. any answers to these questions would be alot of help.
