Yes 720p is 1280x720p. His is a bit better. its progressive 788. But he needs to set his stb at 720p

So I set the voom box on 720? Thanks, will this also help with the standard stations? Also the tv has a noise filter setting will this help with the slightly fuzzy standard stations?

Yes, Sony has a non-standard resolution of 788p.

I feed VOOM's unchanged 1080i and let the TV set do the conversion.

How do I determine the signal strength of my dish?

Switch to a satellite channel (e.g. 100) and then press HELP-INFO-OK
Then press DOWN 2-3 times until you see the signal readings.

Thanks Ilya, That is what I have the Televison set on now, I know that if I can educate myself I can get the maximum enjoyment

Again, per the specs the set accepts 480i/480p/720p/1080i, so for HD I would try both 720p and 1080i and leave it at whatever looks best (i.e. find out if the stb or the Sony has the better scaler).

Doesn't it work for SD signal only?
I don't know. I try not to filter anything. I like it the way it is...
