This afternoon we received a message from one of our servers that no system administrator wants to see, a message that one of our hard drives has died.

Because of this tonight at 8:30PM ET/ 5:30PM PT we will be doing some emergency work to our servers. The work will include a complete backup of our databases and our ISP is going to test the one drive in our array which is reporting it failed.

Luckily we are on a RAID 10 system on both of our servers so the data is all good, but we are doing a backup of everything... "just in case" for safe measures.

The length of the outage is expected to be 45 minutes to an hour.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work to make SatelliteGuys better for you!

Hope it goes well. Don't want to lose a weeks worth of posts like happened over at AVS.

Ok we are all back up.

The drive that appeared to have failed just somehow got unseated from its cage. The tech reseated it and it fired up and checked out fine. The Raid Array is now rebuilding the array so while thats happening the speed might not be at 100%.

We shouldn't have any issues with lost messages as our server are backed up to each other hourly as well as a daily, weekly and monthly backup.

We are keeping our fingers crossed, but knock on wood all looks good. :)

Good to hear everything is back to normal.
Thanks for the update Scott.

Another unscheduled outage tonight? I got a "Database Error" page that said you'd been notified. Now it's back (obviously!)

I was upgrading the DB server OS and DB Software, it was a short reboot and then restart of the DB.
