Has any existing customers been able to upgrade to the HR20 or 21 at either the $99.00 fee charged for new customers or less? I've been a customer for 10+ yrs. I called 2 csr's yesterday and asked about upgrading, and they said because I am an existing customer I can not have the $100 rebate. I asked if there would be any offers given to existing customers and both said not in the near future. Should I have been talking to retention instead, is there a direct # to them? Thanks for the help in advance.

What receiver do you have now?.DirecTV has been giving good deals for subscribers with the HR10-250s.If you want to speak to Retention just call DirecTV and say I want to speak to Retention. Also remember most good deals come to subscribers that subscribe to the higher priced packages.Good Luck!:)

I got an additional HR21-700 earlier this month for $99.00. I have been with Directv since 1995 and I do subscribe to the highest programming level (Premier). Be aware that Directv is reeling in the practice of CSR's offering spur-of-the -moment discounts. They will be keeping a much tighter rein on discounts to existing customers in the future. There is a whole thread on this over at DBSTalk.com

My recivers are a directv plus dvr and a directivo.
I will check out dbstalk. Thanks hdmore. Do you think I would I be able to upgrade the
plus dvr since it originally cost me $99 to lease for another $99? I don;t have the top of the line package, but want to get 2 HR21's and NASCAR hotpass, not to mention Adding back HBO.

Anything said here will just be conjecture. You need to call DirecTV and ask for the retention department, They have more latitude with respect to deals.

I called to see if i could get the new customer upgrade. I was offered $50 off the $199 price. But then they tried to tack on new customer charge and this and that so it went up to about $250.

I went to Directs website and emailed them about how upset i was i would have no prblem paying just the $150 but those other charges are ridiculas. I then recieved an email to call a speacail 800# plus a 4 digit pin.

I beleive it was retension. I called and got the hddvr for the $99.00 price.

So try emailing and complaing see were that gets you.

I've been with D* since 1995, actually 6 months after they started. Last August when they were talking about the new hd channels, I called them to see what kind of deal they could work out for me on the new hd-dvr since I had been a customer for so long. Needless to say they told me that being a customer for so long really didn't matter to them and the best they could do was $99.00 plus $19.95 handling/installation and a one year commitment. Since other people I knew didn't do that well I took the deal. Last week I was talking to tech support about another problem and asked if there was anyway to get a good deal on a 2nd hd-dvr. The tech person said that he could transfer me to someone else who could probably work out a deal. When the new person came on the line I explained that I wanted a good deal on a 2nd receiver. She agreed that she would give me a good deal if I upgraded one of my receivers. I agreed to upgrade one of my old receivers (one that had the local channels on the 900 channels) and she offered me this deal. Pay $19.95 handling/installation since she had to send a installer out to give it to me and the receiver would be FREE!!!! Needless to say I took the deal. The department she worked in was the "Win-Back" department. I was really suprised at her offer since I really didn't have any leaverage since I still had a long time left on my commitment. Try getting ahold of the Win-Back Dept if you can and see what they can do. Good Luck.

I used the e-mail route and they gave me a pin #. I called, told them I was interested in HD and was interested in buying out my contract if the deal from D*** was better. They came back and matched the D*** deal for new subsribers.

I got free hd-dvr, hd receiver, and the new dish and installation. I payed 19.95 for s/h.

I also used the e-mail method and was able to upgrade my 2 owned HR10-250s to 2 HD-DVRs for $199 + $19.95 (they waived the fee on the first HD-DVR, charged the $199 lease fee on the second). Confirmed with the CSR that the HR10s were showing as "owned" and that I would be able to keep them (will relocate them to other rooms in the house). My 2 year commitment ended in August 2007, and we have had the Premier channels with HD package since the beginning. I was pleased that I didn't have to haggle and/or call multiple CSRs to get this deal, since it seems to be the best deal available for existing subs.

The only drawback came when I requested the Slimline dish and the HR21-700 receivers. The CSR couldn't promise that I would receive my requests, citing that it depended on what the installer was able to obtain. I had the CSR put in the WO notes that I wanted the Slimline and the HR21s, and to have the installer call me 24 hours before install (install date is 2/9, didn't want to take a chance with the Super Bowl :D) to confirm my choices.

I'm not terribly concerned about the availability of the HR21s since it sounds like its getting difficult to find the HR20s (our OTA HD locals are already included with Premier channels), but I'm hoping that the installer will come through with the Slimline. The CSR did say that I could purchase the equipment on my own to be sure that I got what I requested, but if I paid $199 outside of DirecTV for the HD-DVRs they would still be considered "leased" and I would have to pay a $99 installation fee for each. Ugh!

I wasn't in a commitment and called and upgraded 3 receivers last week. I got 2 HR20-100's and an H20 for $125 after tax and shipping, and a 2 year commitment.

Rule of thumb is to try to get retention department - they control the best deals.

Through email, if they reply with a PIN - that is how you get retention the easy way.

On the phone, you can ask for retention and hope, or try to play the dis-satisified / cancellation card.

Either way, retention group will look at your account history and give you the best that Directv can offer you. Every account / situation is different.

That is how I got an HR21 for free. I have an HR20 already so I went to upgrade my R10 and I was told it would cost me $299.00. I was not happy with their response so I emailed Customer Service and in turn I got a nice email from them and a PIN #. I did pay $99.00 for it but I got HD programming for a year for free.
