We're moving soon and I wanted to upgrade to a hopper when we do. Right now we have a 722 with an external hard drive (WD). I was on the phone with Dish awhile back for something else, but I asked the guy if we did upgrade, could we still use our external hard drive (which I have half full of all kinds of stuff I don't want to lose). He said no, it wasn't possible. So I'm asking here cause this is where the smart people are. :)

Is it possible?

Thanks in advance!

WD has a very good chance. Is it under 2tb and has a power cord?

If the Hopper recognizes the format from the 722, you should be able to access your existing content. But if the Hopper needs to reformat the drive, you'll lose it.

As long as it's on the same account it will work, I have seen some people have issues (asking for re-format), but sending a re-hit to the box fixes it.

When I upgraded from a ViP 622 to a Hopper 3 in May, my WD external hard drive worked fine when watching television.

However, I cannot see the external hard drive contents when using DishAnywhere with the Sling technology.

But with the Hopper 3 big hard drive, I just move recordings from the external hard drive to the Hopper 3, and DishAnywhere works great.
