Video Game Deals

Amazon is also having a Bethesda sale. Doom 3 BFG, Fallout 3/NV Goty, elder scrolls 3 and 4 GOTY for $9.99. Cheap time sinks. This is for console and PC (Doom is console only.)

Every time I see deals like this on New Vegas, I'm soooooooooo tempted, until I reread the many reviews that complain about how badly this runs on PS3. If I wasn't such a completionist, I'd slog through for 20-30 hours, before the save file gets too big and the problems really become much more frequent like happened in FO3.

In other news, I'm not sure if this is a flash sale or a typo, but Thief is $29.99 on the PSN right now for either PS3 or PS4:

The free PS Plus games for April have been announced.

Mercenary Kings - PS4
Batman: Arkham City - PS3
Stealth Inc. - PS3/Vita
Castle of Illusion Staring Mickey Mouse - PS3
Velocity Ultra - PS3/Vita
Pixeljunk Monster Ultimate HD - Vita

Nothing here really excites me but I will probably give Mercenary Kings, Stealth Inc, Velocity Ultra, and Pixeljunk Monsters a try. Can't beat free!

I can't say I'm terribly excited either, but it looks like a good slate of decent games I would try if I didn't have so many others to keep me busy. I wish they had given us the GOTY version of Batman so I could finally play the Harley Quinn story DLC.

Valve sale this weekend at Gamefly. Odds are you've played most of these games already, but if you haven't they're pretty much all at 75% off (along with an additional 20% off by using code MAR20OFF) so this is the best way to do it. Also, if you're interested in Portal, TF2, or any part of Half Life 2 just get "The Orange Box."

Very cool. I already have Dead Space tied to both my Steam and Origin accounts but it's still cool for those who don't. Steam is also doing a Square Enix sale.

It should be noted that this sale changes daily, in that one or more games are on bigger discount each day. Today it's Final Fantasy VII and VIII, although for some reason 7 is cheaper than 8 is. Personally I always thought that 7 was a little overblown and overrated. I appreciated 8 more, but from what I can tell I am in the DEEP minority in that opinion. 7 wasn't bad, but I don't view it as the holy grail of JRPGs, nor am I pining for that HD remake that everyone seems to be pining for. I bet whoever at Sony thought it was a good idea to show off hasn't heard the end of it from their superiors at SE..

Mercenary Kings for PS4 and Arkham City for PS3 just showed up on the PSN store as the free PS+ games for this week.

I just "purchased" them on the web store and started the remote download of Mercenary Kings from work so it would be waiting for me when I want to play it. Going to the PSN store on a computer every Tuesday evening is so much more convenient that doing it from the console.

Especially since they can't all be "purchased" from a single console. (Which is silly)

Good point. Sony probably lost an actual sale from me last week when I couldn't buy a sale item for the PS3 from my Vita. By the time I could've gotten to it on the PS3 or PC store, the sale was over.

Rise of the Triad (Remake) is $3.74 on Steam. I just tried it myself (from a previous purchase.) Seems like quite a bit of fun. It's REALLY reminiscent of 90s FPS games, as the original was the precursor to Duke Nukem 3D. No regenerating health or other CoD Style features, just lots of guns and people to blow up.

On the off-chance any of this would be of interest to someone building or upgrading a gaming PC, Amazon is having a "Deal of the Day" on a number of computer peripherals, components and accessories. I personally wouldn't know enough to say if any of it is worth the price or if there is anything that someone would even want to put into a gaming PC, but just in case ...

Amazon is having a sale on the Assassin's Creed games. They're all available for $5 (excluding 4 and for some reason 2)

Also Titanfall is $45 for the One on Amazon.

I really enjoyed AC4 even though the other games in the series didn't grab me. AC4 is the first game in the series I ever finished. I was very close to pulling the trigger on AC3 after reading your post. At $5 it's a pretty good deal. Then I thought about it for a second and came to the conclusion that I would likely never play this game.

The chart you posted a couple weeks ago about how few people complete games on Steam made me question my habit of buying just about anything with a decent review score if the price is right. I'm trying to change that behavior. Now I ask myself If I will ever actually play these games before pulling the trigger. If the answer isn't yes, or at least probably, I'm not buying unless it's practically free. PC deals are often great but if you aren't actually going to play the game it doesn't matter how great the deal is. You are still wasting money.

I'm sure I could get my $5 worth out of AC3 but I just have to many games to play to waste time and money on something I'm only slightly interested in. This is especially true with an annual release franchise like Assassin's Creed. By the time I get through my priority games and even think about launching AC3 the release for this year will be out and available to rent on my PS4.
