VOD Online

I was wondering if you need the VOD kit from Direct for VOD capabilities. I know you can do things like change programming and order PPV online, however could you order VOD online and have it download to the TV?

the vod kit is just so if you have a vod capable dvr that it aids in getting the internet to the box assuming it not close to the internet router.
