This thread is not meant to slam Voom. Please don't post if you want to, we have plenty of other threads started to do that.

I thought we might have fun and post what each of us "sees" Voom being in the future. Predications- if you may.

I think Voom will look very different a year from today, perhaps two years.

Programming will have to change. Some HD Channels will be dropped. The most watched ones will stay and thanks to Voom's leadership, great SD channels will be in HD. My guess Voom WILL listen to us and stop compressing so much.

What new Hardware will we see?

So weigh in....

1. WM9 is implemented.
2. Moov is gone
3. Cinema5 running 4 movies per channel 2 to 3 times a day.
4. Gallery, treasure, auction and gallery are combined.
5. Rush and Worldsport are combined.
6. Equator material is sold to the Discovery channel.
7. INhd or HDnet is added.
8. the white spot is gone and all the software works.
9. Billing is now by mail.
10.New dishes are in place.
11. modules are sent by mail to upgrade to WM9 and mpeg4.
12. 2nd hand recievers are made active.
13. The moto is $299 installed like d*'s or even cheaper. And can be self installed.
14. Taxes are not collect in states that dont require them to be collected and all past taxes are refunded to customers.
15. The average bandwidth is 14 mbps under mpeg2 and 9-10 mbps under WM9.
16. RSN's are added.
17. Dstant HD network feeds are added to combat D*.
18. The barker contains tutorials on using the voom moto like d*'s info channel.
19. Voom develops a "hotlines" and "bikini destinations" show

1. WM9 at 15Mbps for every HD channel.
2. WM9 at .5Mps for every SD channel.
2. Voom offers a good DVR at an affordable price.
3. Cinema Channels become entirely genre specific.
4. Moov is changed to some sort of TechTV type channel in HD (then you don't have to fire all the Moov Lab geeks just showcase them!)
5. Equator HD gets more Travel Shows
6. WorldSport to expand its budget and include major events like Rugby, World Cup SOccer, and other international events (figure skating, gymnastics, etc).
7. Another HD Voom exclusive that shows old sporting games in HD, like in 2005, shows 2004 NFL games in HD. I think it would cost them little to broadcast this and although still a niche channel should be hella more popular than Moov.
8. Ultra HD to show nudity.
9. Pay Per View movies.
10. RSNs for everyone.
11. INHD on Voom. This should actually be higher, but something tells me this won't happen until Voom's subs grow into the millions.
12. HDNet on Voom - see 11.

The easy answer is sports and a DVR. Qaulity sports in HD would make Voom a serious contender. The unfortunate problem is existing contracts and how to get in the ballgame (so to speak). A DVR becomes more essential with every show that goes HD. The rest of it, take it or leave it. Moov and the various Cinema channels don't bug me. PPV HD would be nice, but with all the movie channels I have it's already tough to watch everything.

i dont think you need 15 mbps for WM9. Ive heard you can get excellent quality at 9mbps but ive never seen it.

I'd have to be dreaming if all that is above- Voom did! We'd only talk about programming content, instead of problems with Voom.

What a wonderful world that would be.

Voom does there own in-house upconversion of SD channels and they look as good as TNTHD does today & all the sparklies are gone.

The PVR with whole house system is up and running smoothly.

You can enter the channel you wish to surf to on the Surf Bar without changing the channel.

The Program Planner now defaults to Power-On (come on, Voom, what are you thinking?).

Voom is still in business and Dish and Direct are starting to sweat big time.

Vurbano, ChetK and I no longer complain about PQ.

The price stays at $49 for the base package for the next 5 years.

Seawaves comes back as a Voom sub. ;)

It's such a shame too, that big giant switch sitting right in front of Wilt that says "Turn on Everything" and he just doesn't flip it. What a bastard. I wonder why this all hasn't happened already all at once?

LMAO...You know Voom is already amke DTV sweat, thus the rumours od 20 new channels in October. As well inHD.

Very simple- no one would complain about great PQ! When is the last time Cuban got an email saying "your PQ sucks"..lol..

There isn't that much porn being made in the whole San Fernando Valley!

Let's say 25, but HD porn demands much better looking actresses!

Actually I sent him one about 2 months ago. Dish was screwing around with the bitrate on HDNET Movies and I had watched Wild Things a few weeks prior and when I tuned it back in, it was worse than a DVD, it resembled the gooshy, smeary mess that is Dish SD so I fired off 3 email over a 1 week period to Cuban, Dish CEO & Dish Tech and after about 10 days it was back to it's normal pristine self.

I hope my few irate emails were enough to let them know that somebody noticed what they were doing. I know Dish is now experimenting with 3 HD/transponder and HDNET Movies is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Profit & greed are horrible things. ;)

You all forgot to add few more things, guys.
About 50 porn channels in HD! :D :D :D

There is not enough decent programming even for 1 HD porn channel. Actually, the Golden Era of porn ended in the 70's. The current productions are mostly waste of c.. anyway.

It looks great on DTV and these are channels Voom must add to be sucessful. If it's Cuban hating Voom, then he's nuts. Money is to be made here.

I did hear that Cuban is dating the hot babe on HDnews...

Actually porn is making quite a "cumback" these days. :p There is at least 2 companies that have quite an extensive film stock shot in HD. On PlayboyHD almost all of the Adam & Eve films are HD, plus the girls look much better today than they did back then. If you ever saw "Deep Throat" you know what I mean, there's nothing nastier than a bare behind staring at you full of zits.

THey probably were always ugly skanks, just in SD we couldn't tell.

You heard wrong, he just got married a few months ago. :no Poor guy, at his age he could have any and all of the girls he wants.

Rainbow DBS should say to Cablevision "Ok so your cutting our allowance, let us carry INHD and we'll call it even?" they have a bigger chance of working that out than HDNet. However when they go WM9 they should be able to house INHD and have it look as it does on Brighthouse. Maybe come back to Cuban and say look at the PQ we can give you now?

Marriage doesn't stop many men from having girlfriends, that's why the divorce rate is so high, LMAO...
