Want multiple receivers

We spend a few months in Mexico and brought a starchoice 75E dish and 305 receiver with us. Had to mount the dish on the roof of our condo.

The conduits through the roof membrane were already full of SKY and DISH cables but we got two RG6 cables through. One goes to my place and the other to another Canadian guy four flights up.

Currently we are tuned to the satellite that brings in Non-High Def programming and our signal strength varies from 55-62. The picture is entirely satisfactory.

A friend just brought us down a DSR 505 and so we want to hook it to TV1 and then connect the DSR305 to TV2. Basically we want to have two receivers but we only have one RG6 cable to work with. Also the guy who brought the receiver down wants to get starchoice now that he has seen the quality of the picture. So that would be one more receiver.

I understand that we can get a multiswitch.
Can we feed the multiswitch from a single cable?
Because of the problem with the conduits can we put the multiswitch at the point where our RG6 from the satellite joins the built in cable to our unit?
If another user wants to join this system can he run a DSR505 from one of the multiswitch outputs?
Currently we cannot get High Def channels and have been told that we need to tune to the High Def satellite not the Regular programming satellite. If we do this will it lower the signal strength from the Low Def satellite?

I would really really really appreciate any answers to these questions.

Thanks in advance

David

Access to Anik F2 (the other satellite) will require either a separate antenna
with 2 output Ku-band LNBF, or if your dish is large enough, a way to add same LNBF to your existing setup. Separate antennas are more reliable, and it would make sense to find a 90 to 100 cm SKY Mexico dish with a 10750 MHz Ku-band LNBF such as the Pansat PT-5600.

If you intend on attaching more than 2 receivers to the system, a powered multiswitch would be suggested; they come in 4 and 8 output versions.
You will need to have dual output Ku LNBFs on each of your dishes (one on
107.3 the other on 111.1), and four coax cables coming in to a central location for the powered multiswitch, which should have AC power nearby. From this location, each receiver needs a dedicated SINGLE RG-6 cable for independent access to all channels on both satellites.

Thanks for your reply. I thought that the Starchoice 75E dish was designed to bring in both ANIK F1 and ANIK F2. Originally we wanted to mount a 1.2 meter circular dish on the roof but the developer disallowed it because he didn't want anything perforating the roof membrane, so we mounted the 75E on the wall of the roof top uitility room.

In any case the LNB on the 75cm dish has four outputs, but we are still stuck with the problem of there being only enough space in the conduits to accommodate two RG6 cables. Can we run one cable from the SAT A and a second cable from the SAT B through the roof to the multiswitch and from there run separate RG6 cables? If so, How many receivers an be connected to the multiswitch

This whole thing has turned out to be infinitely more complicated than anticipated and I am wondering about abandoning the idea of getting High definition TV and just settling for working with the ANIK F1 satellite.

Given the constraints of: (1) not mounting a bigger dish on the roof,: (2) only two cables through the roof, could we at least manage having multiple receivers if we had a multiswitch fed by two cables from the LNB?

Sorry to be so stupid

David

Properly installed, the 75-E should work on both satellites, but once you get into Mexico, there are issues with weaker signals than found in the areas to the north (U.S. Lower 48 and Canada). Read the info on satellite antennas found at the previously reference GLOBAL website to understand the details.
IF you want to just get signals from Anik F1R, it would be recommended to switch to a 90 cm antenna, and install a 2-output LNBF so that two cables
can connect to your multiswitch and allow independent access to both polarities on Anik F1R. Then you would have as many available outputs as your multiswitch allows. Before giving up, also take a look at the skew setting on your 75-E to see if it matches the numbers given for the 111.1 (F2) satellite, as found on the GLOBAL website's Satellite Pointing Angles subsection for Star Choice. IF not, you might want to consider a realignment of your dish, using 354 to peak F1R and channel 265 for Anik F2, for best levels on both.

Many thanks. I understand:)

Two (hopefully final) questions.

Can we feed the multiswitch with two of the four outputs from the four output LNB on the existing eliptical dish?

Is there any other option for multiswitches, other than going through starchoice, as getting it through them means I have to get someone in Canada to buy it and bring it down.

Again, Many Thanks

David

If you can get your 75-E elliptical working, there is no need for any
switching. Two receivers = two RG-6 connections...one directly to
your Quad LNBF from each receiver.

Otherwise, a dual Ku-band LNBF with 2 wires could connect to any common
DirecTV multiswitch. 5 in, 4 out (just connect two wires from the LNBF to
the two satellite connections with 0 KHz, for Anik F1R).
