Come Sept. 10th GH is being moved to the 2PM time slot and 3PM being given to the new Katie Courec show. Don't understand why they would do this after being at 3PM forever. Why not put the new show at 2PM? I think I know the reason why. They will lose viewership and use that as an excuse to cancel the show after next season. It costs them a lot of money to produce GH and they want to get rid of it. I think they have committed to one more season, but after that, it will be sayonara just like most of the other soaps. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Does it really matter what time anything is on anymore? Time shift GH or any other program for your convenience.

Is what you are referring to a local affiliate decision? In my area Katie will be on at 4 PM. Not sure about GH. But I don't think Ms. Couric's show is officially part of the ABC Schedule-----am I incorret?

They added One Life to Live characters to GH and now they are moving to OLTL time slot. Makes perfect sense to me. You only have one life to live on General Hospital.:D

Pretty sure this is being done by ABC. Was just wondering out loud about the decision. Still think that future cancellation is what it's all about. And we do record it daily so we can have the option of watching it live or later in the evening. And they do not say what will be in the 1PM time slot. Will it be The Chew or Good Afternoon America. Don't really care because we don't watch either one. Just curious.

Will GH being around come 2014?

It all depends on the ratings. My questions are: Did GH's ratings up since ABC execs murdered OLTL and AMC? If not, did these folks move over to CBS daytime or, worst scenario, did they quit watching Soaps altogether?

Good Afternoon America is leaving

looking at my local TV listings its Chew at noon, GH at 1, Katie at 2

Also Katie is not necessarily on ABC...there are about 25 affiliates right now that are gonna carry it but aren't ABC affiliates

It appears that you are in the Central time zone Iceberg. Listings here in Cleveland are in the same order, but 1 hour later. And Katie is being promo'd here to make appear that it is surely an ABC show. But not necessarily so I guess. I figured that "garbage" show Good Afternoon America would be the one to bite the dust. Thanks for the info.

yes I'm in the CTZ...Minneapolis

Katie is being produced by ABC-Disney but is considered syndicated (even thought most affiliates are ABC related)

I think that it si similar to Ellen DeGeneres situation with NBC affiliates getting first crack in a market but it can go anywhere.

Ellen's show has always been produced by Telepictures (a WB subsidiary) It once filmed at NBC and now films at WB but NBC never owned it. It is syndicated but offered to NBC stations first. I believe that Katie Couric's show is following a similar syndication model but with ABC stations getting the preference.

Frankly, if most of the affiliates are ABC ones and the show is produced by Disney/ABC, why not just make it an ABC show? I don't see the reasoning behind why ABC would give up the 3pm ET timeslot to affiliates just so most of them would just air the show anyway.

these days the networks do not have the same level of control over their affiliates particularly in time slots that are adjacent to the local news (and where ratings affect income of the local news). With this model the show can at least be sold to other stations in those markets. This model is somewhat more lucrative to the stations as well and it is likely the networks use it to try to satisfy those affiliates.
