I gather many of us have pets or keep animals. Just wondering what the favorites were.

Dog for sure.

I wouldn't even live in the same house as a Ferret, bird or reptile. :)

i believe ferrets are very stinky animals so i would never even think about it. i dislike most reptiles too.

That would be my dog for sure, she turned 13 this month and is showing it. I'm not looking forward to not having her around anymore but I know its inevitable

I know what you mean......watching your dog get old is the worst part of dog ownership. :(

One of our cats became ill, stopped eating and lost 40% of her weight. Vet had no idea. A specialist would charge, literally, thousands of dollars. That's just not in the cards, especially for a 13 year old cat. Another vet, same practice, suggested that a cortisone shot would be the treatment for at least a couple of the possibilities, so that's what we did. And we force fed her some special food for a while. She bounced back. Not quite the same cat, but we still have her.

I have Golden mix and a Blue Heeler... (impatiently waiting for me to take them for their walk)

that can be real annoying......we can't even say the "W" word in our house unless we plan on taking the dog within 30 seconds.....the harassment is relentless :)

How anyone can have an attachment to a ferret, bird or fish is beyond me. Of course it's gonna be a dog.

I of course don't have an attachment to my fish as I would a cat (which I don't currently have, but have had a few). But I just find fish fascinating to watch. The only thing I will shed a tear over when losing one is how much the fish cost.

I have birds, fish, and a dog at present. Have had cats, chickens and other revenue fowl, a peacock, ducks, ponies, horses, a sheep (the wife's, not mine!), and a skunk over the years. That last critter was quite fascinating!

Two of my birds talk, and that's the endearing factor there. The African Grey has about a 200-word vocabulary and a sizeable cacophony of "household" sounds (phone ringing, microwave beeping, dog growling, smoke alarm going off, etc.) And he cusses like a sailor when "appropriate" (wonder where he got that ?!?) He'll probably outlive me as he's just a teenager now. Birds can be very affectionate if handled frequently. Mine aren't because I don't spend enough time with them. Birds are messy and create a lot of dust. But I can't think of a critter that doesn't have a downside.

Those of us who keep animals do so for a variety of personal reasons. To each his/her own...
