I'm about to renew my Dish subscription and I currently have HBO and Showtime as my movie channels. I remember back in the old days, these Premium channels actually had relatively current movies! Not so much now, it seems. I really don't want to fork over my whole paycheck to get all the movie packages so can anyone recommend which of these has the most current movie selections available? I've done a lot of browsing on this forum but haven't found any recent comparisons.

Starz exclusive:

* Disney & its subsidiaries (Buena Vista, Dimension, Miramax, and Touchstone). [Though the Disney Channel really has first dibs on some releases]

* New Line Cinema

* Revolution Studios

Partial arrangement with:

* Universal Studios that gives it 400 exclusive titles of old movies that they can rotate for a decade.

Beginning in 2006 Starz will get Columbia and Sony Pictures Classics

Showtime: exclusive

* Paramount

* Lion's Gate

* MGM (Thru 2008) {may have been shortened or altered since Sony bought MGM}

* Artisan (thru 2008) {may have changed because Lions Gate acquired Artisan}

* Some indie studios

HBO/Cinemax: exclusive

* Warner's

* 20th Century Fox

* DreamWorks

* Universal

In addition, it purchases broadcast rights to movies produced by:

* Sony Pictures (excluding Revolution Studios)

* Warner Brothers (excluding New Line Cinema)
