There is only one HD channel on fta. So why is evryone going crazy over the fortec and mercury hd receivers?

Yep, I wanted the Pansat 9200 for HD because there is alot of hockey up there right now in HD and also many other things that are not permenant.

I wanted the pansat 9200 model because:
It has a real blind scan (essential for find the HD feeds and all feeds)
It has good motor control
I like Pansat and have had good experience with them.

I get a kick out of my friends paying for ppv hockey HD games in 15Mbps and I get the same game for free on a 45Mbps HD feed !

but of course they get the convience of a guide that lets them schedule a timer for the game 9 days in advance. where I gota search like mad at the time of the game to find it before I miss any of it. lol.

I've yet to see a list of FTA channels that are any good. Show me some please. I have an Interest, but from the lists I saw I can see why its free.

Hemi,

All I will say is if you like sports and currently pay for a premium sports sub (be it pro or college) or like to find recent movies or just some really interesting channels and broadcasts, then FTA is a worthwhile hobby.

If you are looking for static, consistent programming then FTA doesn't have a whole lot to offer, but the PBS's (HD and SD) and the stuff on G10 are good.

I found so much stuff on FTA, I canceled my dish sub for over a year. I recently only re-subbed to the family pack for a couple of the channels offered in it. I still say my whole family watches 90% fta and 10% lifeline cable and DishFamily.

With FTA I sometimes have to sit back and laugh at what people actually pay for and what is up there for free (at least stuff that interests me and my family and it may not be suitable for you and yours)

Oh there is a ton of stuff out there.

Click up at the top of all forum pages where it says "The List".

Well it all depends what you like. I'm kinda like you the channels that are up don't have me raving. Sports feeds are the reason for me to have it.

Now to get an HD receiver. I don't know how much longer I can wait. Problem is I keep finding flaws with all of them that are out

The problem I have is ,I have no clue where to begin. I'd like to start off small ,to get a feel for it. But it looks like theres many satellites. It doesn't seem like its that easy. How could I start. Simple!!

Well, I'd start with a package deal from one of the sponsors or from sadoun.

I started with a simple stationary setup to see what was all involved in FTA, then I QUICKLY moved to a motorized setup cause as you noticed, there is alot to hit.

I only can get KU (no c-band) but like I said, I find alot with just that. I then ended up adding a secondary stationary dish for G10 and have procured additional dishes over the past year that currently are in storage, but I have plans. It's a hobby that can quickly expand if you are enthusiastic. But even a simple motorized setup yields many positive things and it's fun to play with stuff. :)

Give me a Satellite with good programming that I can point my extra Dish 500 at.And NO not the 61.5:D thats how I'll start, Help please. As long as its not all Church channels.

Check out sadoun and satelliteav ebay stuff. I got a killer deal from Sadoun's ebay store when I started out. As for your dish500, you're not going to get much with that FTA wise.

Are the majority of the sports feeds on KU or C band? I was just about to purchase a FTA setup this weekend util somebody told me that most of the sports feeds were on C Band.

I would say the majority are on KU but, there definitely some on C as well. Gal. 17 AKA sbs6 is pretty popular

Thanks, I guess I will need to relook at things. Maybe it will be a quick trip to Sadoun this weekend.

The majority of sports that I want and watch are KU. heck, I renamed Gal17(SBS6) on my receiver to HockeySat. :) But hockey (all levels) is not all I watch. I could build quite a list of sports we find.
